One ‘Survivor’s P33N Gets CBS In Trubs
Last Saturday we got to see a few amazing screencaps from the premiere episode of Survivor: Gabon that showed a flash of P33N (courtesy of contestant Marcus Lehman) which occurred during one of the episode challenges and was broadcast on national television. Today we learn that the Parents Television Council has lodged a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission against CBS, claiming that the P33N flash was intentional … CBS, obvs, disagrees:

CBS, the network that gave us the Nipple That Knicker-Knotted a Nation, now brings us the Peekaboo Penis. The self-appointed watchdog group Parents Television Council has filed an indecency complaint with the Federal Communications Commission over the season debut of “Survivor: Gabon” — ironically the first episode of this series to be broadcast in high-definition. If you look closely at participants in a race, you see Marcus Lehman’s little colonel “falling out” of his boxer shorts as he runs to the finish line, PTC reports. “The image was not obscured in any way,” PTC notes in disgust. In fairness, the episode had a lot of pixelation — just not of Lehman’s male pride. “Although this instance was brief, it was nonetheless shocking and purposeful,” PTC President Tim Winter said in a statement. CBS, in a statement, insisted it was “a completely unintentional, inadvertent and fleeting incident that was virtually undetectable when viewed in real time.” “Fleeting” was the word of choice when the Super Bowl Nipplegate story broke, too. “In the first 24 hours after the broadcast, before freeze-frame images were widely posted online, we received one viewer comment from the 13 million who watched the telecast,” the network said. PTC had this to say about that: “CBS’s decision to hide behind excuses that the incident was ‘fleeting’ and didn’t generate an immediate flood of complaints is the epitome of irresponsibility. The number of ‘fleeting’ penises we expect to see on broadcast television is zero.”
I mean … seriously. Some folks are so uptight, it’s ridiculous. Millions of folks had no idea that there was any P33N flashed on last Thursday night’s ep of Survivor and the P33N in question only came to light when studious and very observant folks slowed down the video (and screencapped it). I absolutely do not believe that it was intentional and find the entire matter wholly entertaining. It wasn’t a big deal (sorry, Marcus) and lodging a complaint like this is only going to turn it into a big deal. That being said, I think a look back that those hilarious screencaps (and that amazing animated gif) might be in order :) Do any of y’all think this is a legitimate complaint or is really much ado about nothing?

I understand where they are coming from but honestly, they are only filing a complaint because they became aware of it after it aired. Besides, is Survivor even a family show?

I have to agree about people being uptight! First of all, if people hadn’t made such a big deal about this (and really, was it a big deal - especially since it could be seen only in slo-mo?) no one would have even known that it happened. This watchdog group is so over the top. I’d love to send some people on their council over to Europe and sit them in front of European TV for a couple hours….they might go into cardiac arrest! America, G-d bless us!

I don’t see the big deal since no one knew what had happened until the GIF made its way through the internet. It’s only a penis, anyone traumatized by an unintentional flash of male flesh needs to ask themselves what their real issues are.

Nicely put Kittycatastrophe…I didn’t see what the big deal is, in Canada that kind of stuff doesn’t even make the news, and we can say certain words on air that would get you sued in the States.

Not a big deal, especially since most didn’t catch it. People who complain about this have nothing worthwhile to do. Geez get over it.

Survivior is still on air?
Anyway, no big deal in my book. I’m a married woman, I see a penis every day. Honestly, it’s people like this group who create a hysteria surrounding the human body, rendering what is a beautiful thing into something gross and to be shunned. Which is a shame, because we all have human bodies and all have those very parts that terrify and disgust these people. Makes me wonder if these folks bathe in their undergarments.

A nation of hypocritical babies. It is the same song and dance every time. First they complain about something totally innocent and accidental like this, and then down the road we find out that people like people like Tim Winters are doing lines of coke off of prostitutes while their wives are at home with the kids. Maybe they should save their cries for censorship for something a little more substantial.

seriously, why are people so fricken uptight? big deal - its not like kids noticed , geese this Parent council should stop making things out of nothing, everyone is eventually gonna see one in their life lol

oh come on, seriously?!? first of all, it’s a penis, every guy has it, and the fact that practically no one noticed it until the screencaps went online, do the PTC slowmo every show they watch or are they just to free??

We are an organization of 200 plus and growing quickly by the day. You can find our home page at http://www.fighttheMPAA.com.
Our goal is to form a resistance to the gender biased media that has existed for the past 46 years.
On Tuesday, October 14, 2008, we sent the following email to Ray Faiola, CBS Audiences Services.
212-975-3166 rpfaiola@cbs.com
We also called him and he told us he never received the email, we are still waiting for a response from CBS.
* On Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, CBS aired a showing of
“Survivor: Gabon” in which a contestant known as Marcus has an alleged wardrobe malfunction which allowed his penis to become visible. The penis was in no way censored by CBS.
The uncensored penis in “Survivor: Gabon” is in no way new news as the media has done this numerous times in the past, but instead of being “supposedly unintentional”, as in “Survivor: Gabon”, it was obviously intended, as were the following examples:
* Superman (1978), aired often on public TV, showed a prepubescent boy’s full frontal nudity, no censor.
*
Never Cry Wolf (1983), also aired on public TV, showed full frontal nudity of a grown man’s genitalia, no censor.
* In the mid 80’s I can recall watching a news report on prison guards who went to work one day totally nude. The censor patch was applied poorly and at most times did absolutely no good what-so-ever.
* Not to mention the countless documentaries made about foreign cultures, in which nudity is considered acceptable for airing as it depicts the culture being studied, but it is always a penis we are being shown in these documentaries, not a vulva.
Why is it that censorship only works in regards to female nudity and not male nudity?
Why is it the media is only concerned with not offending viewers who disapprove of female nudity, but they are in no way concerned with offending viewers who disapprove of male nudity?
Please do not site the Janet Jackson Super Bowl Incident, as we see male’s nipples on television day-in and day-out. A female nipple is in no way equivalent to male genitalia.
We also sent the above email to the Chairman of the FCC, Kevin J. Martin, with these additional questions:
Will the FCC set an example by slapping CBS with a fine much greater than that of the Janet Jackson Super Bowl Incident, or will the FCC show them selves to be gender biased by making a much weaker fine for this “incident”, there by encouraging CBS to do this kind of thing again and again.
Also what are the fines for the following:
A females nipple
A males nipple
A vulva
A penis
And if the fines are held to different standards in regards to male nudity vs. female nudity could you please explain why.
Once again we are awaiting a response from the FCC.
To contact the FCC the number is,
Phone: 1-888-CALL-FCC
Respectfully,
Noel Torrey
