Madonna To Become The New Face Of Louis Vuitton
The New York Post is reporting that Madonna has signed on to be the new face of Louis Vuitton’s 2009 ad campaign. You know, I thought it was very interesting that Madonna — who isn’t a big purse carrier like some of the other high profile celebrity women — started carrying around a garishly orange LV purse in recent weeks (like, for example, when she emerged from the Kabbalah Centre in SoCal last week) … and now, I guess we know why … for a reported $10 million bucks, her Madgesty is gonna be seen totin’ around LV purses all year long next year:

MADONNA is being paid handsomely to be the new face of Louis Vuitton’s 2009 marketing campaign. The pop queen, who’s getting divorced from Guy Ritchie over issues ranging from sex to kabbalah water, is raking in $10 million for her modeling gig, sources told Page Six. And, despite online buzz that the shoot would be done by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot, WWD reports the nod went to legendary Steven Meisel, who did Madonna’s notorious 1992 book, “Sex.” Madonna was seen last weekend cozying up with Vuitton designer Marc Jacobs at the Chateau Marmont in Hollywood, discussing the clothing. Madonna’s rep declined to comment.
I understand that Maddy sat for a new photoshoot in SoCal on the same day that she was snapped carting around this LV purse from the Kabbalah Centre. While I think the shoot prolly wasn’t for her new LV campaign, I’m pretty sure it won’t be long before those photos get snapped. I can’t wait to see them … Madonna + Steven Meisel + Louis Vuitton = Woot!

No one looks more like wrinkled leather than Madonna :)

I’ve never been a big fan of the logo LV bags, but this one seems to suit Madonna. :) She’ll bring a little spunk into the LV ads for sure!

I am sick of the sexism and ageism thrown at Madonna day in day out, I’m talking to you nicola.
Madonna looks beautiful in this picture, she is a true icon and will always be the queen. so please stfu about her wrinkles, how fucking shallow is that comment?
November 19th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
woah there lindyloo take it down a notch!-do you know Madonna personally?? I bet she is just as shallow as anyone else; reaching her icon status didn’t come from her singing talent it came from her ever changing “image”. Funny though that your cussing someone out for being shallow to defend Madonna!

I have to say I adore Madge..but as the years have gone by she seems to have forgotten her roots, somewhat. Of course, we don’t know for sure taht she’s truly shallow but all those things she used to do she doesn’t (AIDS and LGBT issues, etc)..but still, Nicola-that was a lame comment. I think she is looking scarier these days, and these pics show her what she was like during the Erotica days, circa 1993. That was when she looked her best, IMO. It’s nice to see her glam look return! This Hard Candy look needs to die. Everyone needs to relax-you either love her or hate her. If only her music was actually good now, everyone would STFU. As a long time devotee, her music STINKS these days. Even though ROL was good, her last great album was Bedtime Stories. Even CoAD was just so so. I Love New York? Terrible lyrics.

JAEDINA, how can you say that she does nothing for gay issues? have you been to any of her shows lately, she has mentioned prop 8 everytime and has always been and still is a great advocate for the gay and lesbian community. might I also remind you, that about 85% of the people who have worked with her on this tour are members of LGBT.
I have been a Madonna fan fpor over 20 years, I have seen her live on each tour since blonde ambition tour, she is one of the most exciting performers I have ever seen live, her fans who btw are predominantly gay, adore her and I can assure that she really loves them back.
people need to stop this character assassination against her, she is essentially a good person.

not this face i hope:

Lindy Lindy..how funny. So because she SAYS Prop 8 stuff, that actually means going out and fighting for us? Come on now. I’ve also been a fan for 20+ years. Just because 85% of her tour staff are LGBT, that does not mean anything whatsoever. Of course they are, they work with Madonna.LGBT are talented stylists, hairdressers, makeup artists. Madonna’s efforts are now aimed with Malawi, Kabbalah, etc. How can you say she devotes as much time and energy to us as she used to ?Gawd no. She just casually throws something in at her concerts. NOT THE SAME THING. I don’t expect the world’s most famous woman to go to every Prop 8 rally-but she could do more. You know it, I know it. This is not a character assassination, this is opinion. She’s changed. She’s 50 now, not 30. People change, bottom line. She used to be so much more laid back and fun. Now she’s kind of a bore. ‘Don’t You Know’?

I think we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one, I could argue with you on this one for a year and a half, i’ll never convince you and you’ll never convince me, so let’s just leave it there.
I still love her, always have, always will.
November 19th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
Honey, if you saw my Madonna collection, you’d see I might have one up on you as far as who’s the bigger fan. I do love her, but you are seriously in denial. Even a fan like me can admit she’s lost her vision. I’ve met countless fans that don’t understand who she is anymore, especially musically. Hard Candy is awful. Fun, yes. But it still stinks. Most of her dancers on the BA tour were gay. So, what’s your point? She hires gays because she knows their craft and dedication, that’s it. When I saw a video of her brother eating dinner with Nikki Harris a few months ago, that told me everything. Even though Nikki seems kind of bitchy.

I think it’s interesting that within a week of going on the Internets and asking fans to ‘help’ her to build a girl’s school in Africa (as IF she needs the financial help!), that she would allow it to be made public that she’s about to rake in $10 million to carry around a purse or two next year.
THAT money could go to the girl’s school.
And, who knows, maybe it will. And maybe her plea for fans to donate is her way of attempting to get people engaged/committed to helping Africa. If so, then kudos to her or anyone who attempts to do such a thing.
But there’s a part of me that can’t help but wonder if the LV paycheque is simply going to cover divorce lawyer fees.
November 19th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
Thank you, Kent. Great point. This woman practically poops money. I often wonder what she really does with what she has. People may make fun of Oprah all the time, but she does get out there with her money and tries to make a difference, even if shi* happens (the teacher abusing the students at that school). I don’t know if it is official that she’s getting 10 mill..that could be speculation. But that is pennies to her. I’m a lifelong fan that’s always wondered if she truly cares about making a difference in the world and in the lives of others.
November 19th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
I’m a lifelong fan, too ;-)
For me though, I feel fairly certain that she does truly care. From Keith Haring to Malawi, I think she cares.
She looks like a good mother and a loving mom, and I think someone with those qualities can’t help but also have some measure of empathy for their world as well.
Maybe I’m just looking at her through my rose-colored Louis Vuitton sunglasses, but that’s my take.
November 19th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
It was nice that she finally mentioned Christopher Flynn, the mentor who told her to believe in herself and go to NYC! Thanks, Chris….RIP.

Well, I’m no Madonna fan. And I won’t be buying a new LV bag for a whole year now. I refuse to line her pockets! Cutting my nose off to spite my face? Probably. But I like Marc Jacobs and Guess just as well as LV. lol
As for opening a school in Africa….Oprah’s already done that and look at the trouble she’s had. It’s just a publicity stunt for old Madge.
While I’m on her case, I happened to see a bit of the old Truth or Dare doco on TV the other day. I’d forgotten what a bitch she really is. The way she spoke to and treated Warren Beatty made me cringe.
Okay, getting off my soap box.
November 19th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
haha are you serious Deb? The way Warren treated Madonna was far worse. She was a bitch and is a bitch, but a different kind of bitch. She jokes with everything; there’s humor in everything she does.
November 19th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
I actually didn’t watch the whole doco because I had better things to watch than old Madge. lol But from what I saw she deserved a good kick up the arse. I have seen her in other interviews etc though and have always wondered at her fakeness. Not only the whole British accent, but just about things in general. She’s very insular, yet makes out she’s this huge humanitarium. From writing children’s books (totally insipid storylines) to adopting a child (ho hum) to opening a girls school in Africa (hello Oprah?), there’s nothing original. Re-inventing herself? Blah.
I just don’t see the humour…seriously. I think she’s a true bitch, very self-involved and totally over-rated. I wouldn’t pay 5 cents to see her. BUT this is just my humble opinion and I know many people will disagree. That’s life eh.
November 19th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
Well I kind of agree and I kind of don’t. I DO think deep down inside she cares but I also think the loss of her Mother set off her need for fame and power. She has re-invented herself musically, although her latest incarnation is a joke. Yes, Oprah did open up a girl’s school but why can’t she? Madge doesn’t need to set trends everywhere and every day. If she was not so self-involved, she would not be as famous as she is. I definitely do not think she is the easiest person to get along with, but I also think she is prob a great Mom and misunderstood. With that said, I admit she is not as fun anymore and age is catching up with her.

I have to agree with all of your points - I’ve been a devoted fan since the beginning - but I do feel like Madonna’s lost her way. Her whole existence seems to be wrapped around Kabbalah - at the expense of everything else in her life. When she FINALLY said something about Prop 8 - it didn’t feel like it was coming from a genuine place. It lacked any kind of passion (that she used to have for gay issues) or emotion behind it. It sounded more like a crowd pleaser. As for aging - it happens. The fact is she is 50 and her videos are STILL being played … and for that reason alone, she will be seen as a trailblazer in years to come.

The new LV bags are awesome….
I hate LV so much, but this time, they’ve raised up the bar.

Ugh. WHAT (other than the high cost) is the appeal about damn LV?? The bags are hideous. Truly.
November 20th, 2008 at 7:10 am
jaredina, it’s funny that when i used caps in one of my comments, you told me to calm down. yet, here you are using caps in your quotes…..
November 20th, 2008 at 10:19 am
Lin I’m with you! I have yet to see a LV bag that is even REMOTELY attractive….they just scream “I NEED ATTENTION”…ugh, I wouldn’t even carry one if it was given to me! (Why would I when I could just sell it and buy myself a beautiful Marc Jacobs ;)
November 20th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
I don’t see any wrinkles. If people didn’t know how old she was, they wouldn’t keep saying things like that about her… At least she’s in shape… She’s in better shape than A LOT of people in their 20’s & 30’s. She’s in better shape than most of America’s teenagers!!
November 24th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
That bag is hideous. Another fashion roadkill.
