Movie Studio Confirms Plans For ‘Sex And The City’ Movie Sequel

BUT, Sarah Jessica Parker says it's not a done deal just yet
November 7th, 2008

Yesterday we learned that Kim Cattrall, one of the principal stars of Sex and the City, made the bold confirmation that a sequel to the Sex and the City Movie would definitely be made “hopefully” next year. Today, Sarah Jessica Parker, THE star of SaTC, responds by saying that the sequel IS NOT a done deal and that plans are still in the talking stage. E! News confirms that Warner Bros. Studios is in the negotiation phase of sequel plans. So while it’s not 100% assured that the sequel will be made, talks are underway to get the deal signed and sealed:

Hold the Cosmos – for now, at least. That’s the word from Sarah Jessica Parker, who says that a sequel to Sex and the City: The Movie is still in the talking stage. Her announcement came just one day after costar Kim Cattrall seemed to hint that the follow-up film was a done deal. (”Yes, there will [be another movie] …,” she said on a British TV show. “We will do the sequel next summer.”) But Parker insists Cattrall’s words were a bit premature. “I’m thrilled to know Kim is excited but all the deals are not yet done,” Parker said in a statement to Access Hollywood. “With the wind on our heels, we hope to make it a reality.”

And this from E! News: Attention straight men of the world: Time to work on that excuse for why you can’t go see the Sex and the City movie sequel with your girl. ‘Cause as of today, it is officially in the works. “They’re in negotiations,” a rep for Warner Brothers Studios has just confirmed to us.

It’s pretty much as I expected … while SJP and WB Studios haven’t outright refuted Cattrall’s assertion that the sequel will definitely be made, they are offering up cautions that “the deal is not done”, implying that the sequel may or may not happen. I would bet good money that we will get a Sex and the City Movie sequel. In fact, I suspect we will get at least three 3 SaTC movies overall … kind of like the Matrix Triology but with Manolo Blahniks. In the end, I think all this chatter back and forth about the sequel is great … the SaTC folks want us to wonder about a possible sequel so that we can start making plans for our SaTC 2 parties. The sequel may not come next year but I’m pretty sure it’ll come soon.

I would love to go see another SaTC movie. What a great teaser :)

  2. JarEdina Monsoon Says:

I can’t wait…but I do hope it’s better than the first one. The first one was good. Good, not great. Carrie needs to stop going back to Big. He constantly treats her like crap.

  3. Kimmie Says:

I would love to have another movie! I loved the last one and can’t wait for another.

  4. Teri Says:

Would love a sequel but what else can they do w/the story lines that hasn’t already been done?

  5. Brenda Says:

I’d like to see a snappy, two-hour movie this time. Leave the extra scenes for the DVD.

  6. Presley Says:

    Yeah a Golden Girls reunion!!!!!

  7. Dianna Says:

I agree with Teri…I can’t even imagine what the story line would be besides ANOTHER break up between Big and Carrie and that would just be ridiculous

  8. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

… how about a Carrie & Big baby?

  9. debho Says:

That’s what I see. During a conversation Big reveals he doesn’t want kids, then Carrie finds out she’s pregnant which puts her in a quandry. Of course it all works out and Big is happy to be a Daddy.
The storylines for the rest of the girls are a bit more harder to work out. Maybe another baby for Miranda and Steve? No divorces. No deaths. I hope. Too cliche.

  10. el Says:

I hope they don’t have another movie. What would they do? This last one was closure. I also bet my fiance a pair of Manolos that they wouldn’t have an another movie! If I loose I have to walk around naked all day.

  11. Anna Says:

I would like another movie, but I can’t imagine a good storyline after the last movie. The only way it can be good is if they forget about the last one but that’s not really possible…
