PETA Protests The ‘Influence’ Of The Olsen Twins
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were on hand for an in-store booksigning at Borders book store in Westwood, CA last night signing copies of their new book Influence for the waiting throngs of fans. Unfortch for the twins, their fans weren’t the only folks who showed up for last night’s in-store appearance. A group of protesters from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals came out for the event to protest the girls’ love of fur. Here are a couple pics of the Olsens trying to make their getaway and some of the protesters displaying their signs:

Man, PETA is showing no signs that they have any plans to let the Olsen twins off the hook for their love of fur. It’s been a few months since PETA launched their Meet the Trollsen Twins website and it looks like the anti-Olsen campaign is still going strong. I understand that the twins were targeted at their NYC in-store appearance a couple of weeks ago as well. Now, I’m not the biggest fan of the Olsens (well, I’m not much of a fan at all) but even I feel bad that the little munchkins are bearing the brunt of this anti-fur campaign alone. Meh, I’m sure I’ll get over it, tho.

Hate speech is such a great way to get people behind your cause. How about instead of following around celebrities, they just advertise why people shouldn’t wear fur. I like the Olsen twins and I also like animals. I DO NOT like the tactics of PETA. It really makes me turn away from their organization.

Gotta agree with Wendell. Although I dont like the Olsen twins :P Wearing fur is really wrong, but PETA go to extremes.

Okay, as a general rule I don’t condone anything that PETA does… but “TROLLSONS”?!?!?! Bwahahahaha!!!

PETAs tactics are just as unethical as the things they fight for are. They’re an extremist organization that’s just as damaging as any other that tries to limit peoples rights using fear and intimidation. They’re trying to force their beliefs on others. How is that different from the Mormon Church influencing Prop 8 in California? It’s just as wrong.
Can six people in masks standing in front of a store even really be called a protest? It looks more like another PETA publicity stunt than a true protest.
After trying to rally that Ben&Jerry’s should use human milk instead of cow milk for ice cream, does anyone even take PETA seriously anymore?

i love peta, tho they should not hate so much, they should get followers thru loving the things they stand for.
i hate people who wear fur tho. its fugly and ur just a murderer.
think about it..
on the other hand. just think, for once.

i respect the work peta does, but i hate the way they do it..half the time they go to far, i remember after that guy got beheaded on the grey hound bus in canada… they used that in an ad!! i couldnt believe it (if i can find it i’ll post it). i dont take half thier work seriously anymore, just zachary said…after the whole human milk for ice cream…..kinda went downhill.

I thought PETA was more against animal testing and such. What’s the big deal about wearing fur? I mean we wear wool which comes from sheep and we sit on leather chairs. Why aren’t they protesting that?
November 13th, 2008 at 10:27 am
I LOVE it, and hate them.

Peta stands for a great cause but emotional abuse they attempt to inflict is a bit ridic. Meaness and ugliness doesn’t get you as far as honorable behavior. What it is does get you is a lot of press. They are the Paris Hilton of the non-profits. If they keep this up, their cause will be lost in their bad behaviors.
November 13th, 2008 at 10:46 am
you can’t fight ugliness with more ugliness.

I like Wendell’s response.
I can’t stand Mary Kate, but Ashley Olsen is beautiful. I hope no one tells me they’re TWINS because I know that, but they’re fraternal. Ashley stays out of the lime light more and doesn’t pursue an acting career. She is a class act.

PETA has good thoughts, but horrible delivery.
Do I assume all their members are cotton/synthetic wearers - without leather belts, shoes, gloves or coats? And if they are so proud of their cause, why do they hide their faces? I hear Macy’s has a sale on white cotton sheets.

They do protest againt leather couch but not wool (i think)…Because you dont have to kill an animal to get wool… leather couch and coats on the other hand..you do…they protest the fur because alot of animals are not dead when skinned or is kill in horrific manner just for people like the olsens can have a coat. They do go to the extreme.. why….because its the only way (or an effective way) to be heard… if they would just go and have a talk with the olsens (which the girls would never accept to do) it would have less of an effect on people. Some people who don’t know what is PETA would see this protest and go on their site to get informed…This is peta’s hope by protesting..soo people would get informed!!! I’m not a member of peta…but i do support what they stand for. Animals deserve rights too!!!

Ugh, PETA are the biggest hypocrites in the entire world. For an organisation that spends most of their time abusing people for killing animals, they sure do a lot of it themselves. Check it out: http://www.petakillsanimals.com/

okay seriously, those masks? these “peta-people” who wont even show their faces in protest, HAVE WAYYYY TOO MUCH TIME ON THEIR HANDS!
be a little more jealous of them peta

I actually don´t care about the Olsen twins aka neither love nor hate em. But I really really dislike their love for fur and everyone who is up in public that much sets an example. I absolutly disagree with all of you, who feel pity for the Olsens and doom PETA. I ma not like the organisation, but I adore this campaign. Nowadays you have to put it in ppls faces! has anyone tried to raise attention for a good cause? Try it and u´ll see… I don´t think the campaign violates any rights of the twins and they surely don´t care much. I´m sorry, but I really feel, they deserve such a campaign. Suits ugly furcoats well.

irony much?
November 13th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
I agree. This is just gonna make them mad. And sad.
THey’ll just wanna go home and cozy up to their fur…
November 13th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
PETA is ridiculous. Rather than go after specific celebrities how about trying to get your message out there some other way. The Olsens have a right to wear fur if they so choose. This is America. Those jackets are going to be made whether the Olsens wear them or not so get over it, try to get your message out a better way and dont wear fur yourself.
You don’t see those TRUTH people protesting individual celebrities that smoke cigarettes. They try to get information out there to the public in creative ways. Not by bullying or protesting.
People don’t even take PETA seriously anymore because of all the crap they try to pull off. Your fighting a lost cause. What’s next, are vegeterians going to protest people that eat meat?
November 14th, 2008 at 9:14 am
PETA does a MASSIVE diservice to all rational and educated animal rights groups. I cannot stand them and I refuse to surf to their website or listen to a single word they spout. I prefer to support groups that do actual work for animals who have been abused and who take the time to clearly educate the public about animal rights and ethical treatement in a manner that doesn’t make me want to ship them off to the nearest mental institution.
(and for the record, there is at least one insane whackjob group who protests wool. Because apparently shearing the sheep is a cruel act, and they have some kind of bizzare video on the net showing ‘proof’ of that. As a knitter, I laugh at them for their utter stupidity. They apparently haven’t a clue about sheep.)

The Olsen Twins are influential? Okay. That’s news to me.
