Kanye West Blogs About The Paparazzi

It's never his fault
Sunday, November 16th, 2008

On Friday we learned that Kanye West was arrested in the UK after being involved in an altercation with a paparazzo in Newcastle but ended up being released from police custody without having any charges brought against him … which, of course, meant that he had to blog about the whole incident on his official blog in his own special way. Here is the full text of Kanye’s pap-blasting blogpost in its entirety (all grammatical and spelling errors [and CAPS] are his own):

WHO’S WINNING, ME OR THE MEDIA?
REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH LIGHT I PUT OUT, THERE ARE PEOPLE WORKING JUST AS HARD TO ONLY DELIVER DARKNESS. IF YOU LISTEN TO MY MUSIC, HOW COULD I DELIVER SO MANY POSITIVE UPLIFTING MESSAGES AND BE THE MONSTER THAT THE MEDIA PAINTS. PAPARAZZI GIVE REAL PHOTOGRAPHERS A BAD NAME. A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS, THEIRS ARE WORTH A THOUSAND DOLLARS…

LET US NOT FORGET THE PAPS KILLED PRINCESS DIANA. WHEN WILL THERE BE A LAW PASSED THAT SIMPLY ENFORCES THAT SOMEONE HAS TO ASK TO TAKE A PHOTOGRAPH OF YOU. THAT WOULD SEEM LIKE COMMON COURTESY. RIGHT NOW THE PAPS ARE ABOVE THE LAW AND THE PEOPLE THEY SHOOT ARE BELOW IT. WHAT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL IS PICTURES TAKEN WITH THE INTENT TO SELL….LIKE DRUGS WITH THE INTENT TO SELL… OR CROSSING CUSTOMS WITH ENOUGH MERCHANDISE TO HAVE THE INTENT TO SELL. THE EXPLOITATION OF MY IMAGE IS THE PROBLEM. IT PRODUCES A “BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY” BEHAVIOR THAT CAUSE THE PAPS TO DRIVE RECKLESSLY ON FREEWAYS, JUMP OVER FENCES AND INVADE PRIVACY ALL IN AN EFFORT TO GET THAT “MONEY SHOT.” YOU SHOULDN’T BE ABLE TO SELL A PICTURE OF ME WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. AFTER THIS LAW IS PASSED, WHEN YOU ENTER A PUBLIC PLACE LIKE A BASKETBALL ARENA ETC., THERE WILL BE A SIGN THAT READS…”ALL PHOTOS TAKEN HERE ARE PUBLIC DOMAIN AND CAN BE USED AT THE PHOTOGRAPHERS DISCRETION.” OBVIOUSLY RED CARPET EVENTS WHERE PEOPLE SHOW UP TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED WILL ALSO APPLY. THE PERSONAL PROBLEM I HAVE WITH THE PAPS IS WHEN THEY TRY TO CATCH YOU BEING A REGULAR PERSON. I AM NOT A CELEBRITY. I’M A NORMAL PERSON THAT’S JUST FAMOUS. I REFUSE TO SNEAK IN AND OUT OF BACK DOORS AND KITCHENS OF HOTELS ETC….

I AM PROTECTING MY PERSONAL SPACE SINCE THERE ARE NO LAWS TO PROTECT THAT FOR ME.

I PUT MY HAND UP TO THE CAMERA IN SELF DEFENSE!

HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED…WHEN I LEFT THE CLUB, I WAS ENCOUNTERED BY A THIRSTY PAPARAZZI AS USUAL. HE FELT HE HAD MORE RIGHTS TO MY SPACE THAN ME, SO I PUT MY HAND UP TO PREVENT HIM FROM TAKING MY IMAGE. I DIDN’T ASSAULT HIM BUT MERELY PUTTING MY HAND UP TO COVER HIS LENS. MY SECURITY YELLED, “GET THE CAMERA OFF HIM.” I GUESS IN ALL THE COMMOTION THE CAMERA SCRAPED HIS NOSE.

THREE HOURS LATER I GET A KNOCK AT MY HOTEL DOOR. THERE WERE FIVE POLICE OFFICERS IN FRONT OF MY ROOM AND I HAD NO IDEA WHY. I HAD MY SECURITY GO SPEAK WITH THEM. THE COPS WERE VERY CORDIAL BUT TOLD ME THEY HAD TO ARREST ME BECAUSE A COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THAT WAS THE BOGUS PART. THEY PLACED ME IN HANDCUFFS AND DROVE ME TO THE STATION. THEY SPOKE ABOUT HOW THIS WAS OBVIOUSLY A PUBLICITY STUNT BY THE PHOTOGRAPHER BUT THEY STILL HAD TO GO THOUGH THE MOTIONS. WHEN I GOT BACK TO THE HOTEL THERE WERE PAPARAZZI HANGING OVER THE BRIDGE ABOVE THE HOTEL TRYING TO GET A SHOT OF ME GETTING OUT THE POLICE VAN. EVEN THOUGH I WASN’T CHARGED, THE DAMAGE WAS DONE. SURE ENOUGH THE NEXT MORNING, PLASTERED ACROSS EVERY MEDIA OUTLET… KANYE GETS ARRESTED. IT DIDN’T MATTER THAT I WASN’T CHARGED OR THE FACT THAT I HADN’T ASSAULTED ANYONE. ALL THAT MATTERED WAS THAT I WAS ARRESTED.

SIDEBAR, THEY QUOTED ME AS SAYING…”GET THE CAMERA OFF HIM!” LIKE I WAS TALKING IN THIRD PERSON. HE TRIED TO MAKE ME SOUND LIKE A CRAZY PERSON AND PEOPLE BELIEVED HIM. WHAT MERIT DOES THIS GUY HAVE THAT HE CAN SAY SOMETHING ABOUT ME AND PEOPLE TAKE IT AS LAW? THE FACT THAT HE COULD GET ME ARRESTED OFF A MERE COMPLAINT BUT I CAN’T ASK HIM TO STOP TAKING PICTURES OF ME IS VERY LOPSIDED.

WHO’S WINNING, ME OR THE MEDIA?

While Kanye does make some valid points, he doesn’t seem to understand that being such a high profile public person makes him fair game for scrutiny when he is out in public. That, by no means, should suggest that the paparazzi has a right to do “whatever it takes” to get a photo but it does mean that he should expect that the multi-millions that he enjoys comes at a price. He may not want to the attention now (that he is far too rich to ever need to worry about working for a living ever again) but that wasn’t always the case … back when he was trying to make a name for himself, I don’t recall him ever railing against the media attention then. In the end, I’m sure that there are many photogs that take things too far and go over the line in the act of trying to take the “money shot” photo but as long as Kanye West (and other celebs) market their fame and celebrity to increase their wealth, they’re gonna hafta deal with the scrutiny … their wealth and fame is all the permission that the public needs to scrutinize them.

Still No Word On The Simpson-Wentz Baby

Pete's newest blogpost is totally devoid of baby news
Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Yesterday morning we learned from Pete Wentz himself that he had to cancel an appearance on CNN Friday night due to an unforeseen “scheduling conflict” and it was widely speculated that the conflict was that his wife, the heavily pregs Ashlee Simpson, had gone into labor to give birth to their first child. So, one might expect that Ashlee would’ve given birth by now, right? NotsofastPete updated his official blog yesterday afternoon and talked about the smell of smoke in LA (due to the wildfires burning just north of Los Angeles) and made ZERO mention of Ashlee or the baby. Here is the pic that Pete posted on his blog and the full text of his most recent blogpost:

my house smells like a fire. me and jensen were driving back from china town and there were police in riot gear on sunset. is this where we are? fucking nuts.

Just because Pete did not mention any baby news doesn’t mean that the baby wasn’t born … mebbe he’s deliberately keeping mum so that the media scrutiny will be waylaid for a few days. Incidentally, I believe the police force that Pete was talking about (and posted a photo of) were in “riot gear” in order to keep the peace as the Proposition 8 protesters took to the streets of LA yesterday. I understand the LAPD was amazingly supportive and did a great job ensuring that the protesters were allowed to peaceably and safely take their protests thru the streets of Los Angeles.

But I digress … Life & Style magazine is reporting that Ashlee did, in fact, go into labor on Friday night citing an alleged text message that Pete sent to all of his friends (and Pete’s blogpost from Friday night):

The moment is finally here: Ashlee’s having her baby! “Pete texted his friends last night that Ashlee is in labor!” an insider tells Life & Style. Plus, Pete posted Friday on his blog that he would have to cancel an interview that was intended to take place on Saturday night. “Due to breaking news and scheduling conflicts I will not be appearing on Larry King Live tonight,” he blogged. Best wishes for a safe delivery and congrats to the happy couple!

It seems likely that Ashlee did go into labor and just as likely that she has already given birth but until we get official confirmation, I guess we’ll just have to wait before sending our congrats. I hope it won’t be long until we hear of the arrival of the Ashl33n baby.

Jennifer Hudson Thanks Her Fans

Begins to move forward
Saturday, November 15th, 2008

In the wake of the tragic loss of her mother, brother and young nephew, Jennifer Hudson appears ready to begin to move forward with her life. J. Hud posted a new message on her official My Space profile thanking all of her fans for their love and support as she dealt with the loss of her family members. Additionally, she has authorized Gap to move forward with the Xmas ad campaign she is featured in despite the tragedy that has just been heaped upon her. Here is J. Hud’s new Gap ad and the full text of her message to fans:

Thank You All

I want to thank each and every one of you for your thoughts and prayers during
this difficult time. My sister and I take great comfort and strength from your
love and concern. jhud

And, about her Gap ad: Jennifer Hudson continues to mourn her family tragedy. Still, the Gap has just launched its new holiday ad campaign, which features a cheery photo of Hudson smiling and wearing a bright red sweater. While the timing may seem inappropriate, a rep for the clothing-store giant assures us that Hudson has given her blessing to use the image. Hudson was given the option to back out, according to Gap spokesperson Olive Doyne. “She said she wanted to be a part of it and that we should move forward,” Doyne says. Hudson was photographed for the ad by Michael Thompson back in July in New York City. The ad, which includes the tagline “Shine Your Own Star,” can be seen in magazines and newspapers and on billboards in New York and Los Angeles.

While I am sure that Jennifer and the entire Hudson family are far from totally healed from their loss, I am very happy to hear that she appears to be doing a little bit better considering … I just love J. Hud and I am so sorry for her loss. I hope that she continues to heal, especially thru the coming holiday season. Again, while I cannot imagine what she is going thru, I hope that the love and support of her fans will continue to be of solace to her as she needs it.

Ashlee Simpson May Or May Not Have Given Birth

Pete Wentz blogs an announcement
Saturday, November 15th, 2008

Father-to-be and Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz, who was due to appear live on CNN’s Larry King Live show last night to discuss his opposition to the passage of Proposition 8 in California, had to cancel his appearance and immediately posted an announcement on his official websites (HERE and HERE) explaining why he was unable to appear on Larry King Live:

due to breaking news and scheduling conflicts i will not be appearing on larry king live tonight, though i am a big fan of the show and look forward to appearing on it in the future. i also look forward to the chance to continue supporting civil rights and speaking out against the passing of proposition 8 and others like it (im looking at you arizona and florida) whenever and wherever i can.

Due to the timing of this “breaking news” it is believed that Pete pulled out of his Larry King Live appearance POSSIBLY due to the fact that his heavily pregs wife Ashlee Simpson went into labor and MAY have given birth to their first child:

At this point, there is no further information or confirmation at all that Ashlee gave birth … or even went into labor … but it seems very likely that that was the “scheduling conflict” that came up at the last minute. Here’s hoping that things are going well for Ashl33n and that I can soon announce the birth of their bouncing baby boy or girl.

Courtney Love Gets Political On Her Blog

Incoherent as always
Friday, November 7th, 2008

Pink reader Lisa gave me the head’s up that Courtney Love posted a new blogpost on her official My Space profile today and in her latest treatise, she seems to be VERY CONFUSED about voting for California Proposal 9. A Yes vote for Prop 8 meant that you want to strip away marriage rights for same-sex couples here in California. A No vote for Prop 8 meant that you want to allow marriage equality for all. According to the text of C. Love’s latest blogpost, it looks like she got it wrong. Here is the full text of Courtney’s post which talks about her knowledge of Prop 8 and then meanders onto other topics (online shopping? anyone?) that don’t seem to make sense at all. All spelling and grammatical errors are her own:

Friday, November 07, 2008 — blown away

that prop 8 passsed! motherfuckers! who voted against it!
it was confusing language in malibu there were kids reminding us to vote yes thatthe language was conbfusing and people were votingno when they meant yes or soemthing

who needs to get laid.
oops did i just share that? well too fucking bad.

While some may have found the language on the ballot “conbfusing”, I think a careful read of the language of the proposal might’ve cleared up any “conbfusion” in the voting booth. To be honest, I’m shocked that Courtney Love even had the inclination to vote in the first place. While she doesn’t actually say that she did, indeed, vote — the implication is that she voted. The implication is also that she voted for Prop 8 erroneously and accidentally added to the tally against marriage equality in California. Courtney Love’s blogposts, while usually hilarious and always confusing, have never made me sad before. This one deffo does.
