LA Lakers Win Game 5 Of The NBA Finals
Woot! Folks here in LA are celebratin’ today that their beloved LA Lakers came back from a 3-1 deficit in the 2008 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics and won Game 5 of the championship series at the Staples Center here in downtown LA last night. After their disappointing performance in Game 4, many naysayers were predicting that Boston would win last night’s game and send the Lakers home empty-handed and they would be taking the championship trophy with them back East to Boston … but the Lakers woke up, played like they’ve been playing all season long and pulled out another win, bringing the series tally to 3-2:

Pack up the championship trophy and book a flight back to Boston, the NBA finals aren’t over yet. The Los Angeles Lakers are headed East to try a historic comeback of their own. Kobe Bryant scored 25 points, including a decisive dunk in the final minute — and Lamar Odom added 20 as the Lakers, playing with pride on their star-studded stage, prevented the Celtics from winning a 17th title with a 103-98 win in Game 5 on Sunday night to close to 3-2 in this restored rivalry. No team has overcome a 3-1 deficit in the finals to win a title. The first 28 failed, and now the Lakers, who blew a 24-point lead and lost Game 4 and nearly squandered a 19-point lead in Game 5, have a chance to do something extraordinary. They’ll have to win on the Celtics’ parquet floor Tuesday night to force a winner-take-all Game 7, where anything is possible … The Lakers needed to hold on to set up a Game 6 on Tuesday night back in Boston. A Celtics victory would give them 17 championships, and the first for their trio of Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.
Of course, the Lakers faithful showed up in full force at the Staples Center last night … Including LA’s biggest fan of all …
After playing a LA Galaxy game in San Jose, CA, Becks boarded a plane so that he could be home in time to attend Game 5 of the NBA Finals at the Staples Center with his eldest son Brooklyn Beckham … on Father’s Day:

OMG … seriously, is this not the cutest thing on Earth? Becks and his son having the time of their lives at a basketball game on Father’s Day (which I bet was really exciting for Brooklyn … considering his courtside seats were basically next to Spider-Man himself — Tobey Maguire). Becks truly has shown that he is a huge fan of LA athletic teams …
… even still, there is no bigger Lakers fan than Jack Nicholson … who led the cavalcade of celebs who showed up to cheer on the Lakers to victory last night (tho, the dour lookin’ Mark Wahlberg was, unfortch for him, rooting for the Boston Celtics):

Now, it’s unclear if Marky Mark was lookin’ pissy pissed because the Celtics lost or because his movie The Happening is upsetting movie goers everywhere for being so crappy but either way, he was lookin’ pretty upset. Paula Abdul, a former Laker Girl cheerleader, was undoubtedly on hand to cheer for the LA Lakers as was (I’m assuming) Tobey Maguire. The NBA Finals moves back East to Boston where the Celtics can win it all if they take Game 6 … but something tells me that the Lakers are gonna make sure that doesn’t happen. They have to win the next 2 games in order to win the championship … a feat that has never been accomplished (no team has ever come back from a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals series and won the title). Since the Lakers like to make history, I’m counting on them winning the whole prize in the end.

I am loving how the media always shows Jack Nicholson and mentions him, yet ignores famed music and movie producer Lou Adler, often sitting right next to him courtside.

The lakers stink. They hardly deserved that win. It’ll go to game 7 but Celtics will take it.

D Beckham and his son are so cute. He looks so short in that picture. Jack Nicholson was shown through out the whole game. Last nights game was really intense.

I agree brooklyn, the lakers were not playing amazing, they just got lucky the celtics offense was off during the last 5 minutes. Even Kobe said that’s not the playing that’ll get us to win in Boston. Let’s win Game 6 and be done, GO CELTICS!

I do declare that the Boston fans are going to cheer their Celtics to victory. Game Six will be the end of the Lakers season.
Not that I care who wins, being a Spurs chica!

While I agree that it was a close game the fact remains that lakers won and I totally agree that they can be history makers they just have to take it one game at a time! btw, I think these pictures of Becks are the perfect end to this years lakers playoff home games!!!

Why are you guys hating on what Trent said about the game? He’s not a writer for ESPN so I don’t expect a full recap of what actually happened.
Chill.
