London Calling: Take Two

The TV Guide
July 24th, 2008

Okay … so without going into the outrageous and totally unacceptable deets, let me just say that I am still here in NYC after Delta Airlines repeatedly lied to the passengers on Flight 1 to London last night and when it was all said and done canceled our flight altogether. All indication was that our flight was On Time ready to leave for London, even after we boarded the plane and they closed the doors … THEN they told us that they were missing a pilot who was flying up to NYC from Washington DC. Cut to hours later, no pilot ever boarded a plane in DC, the flight was canceled and our luggage was kept from us without any guarantee that it would be forwarded to London.

We try to leave for London again in a few hours:

Not only did we lose a day in London, we lost hundreds of dollars for an unused hotel room AND we aren’t totally sure that our luggage will make it to London with us. I cannot stress this point enough — NEVER EVER FLY DELTA AIRLINES. Their customer service is insulting their employees are a joke (shrugging their shoulders at every turn telling us that there is nothing they can do) and their attempts to remedy situations where they are at fault are nonexistent. Once this trip is completed, I will never set foot on a Delta plane again, I will never EVER give them one penny more. I’m not at all surprised that the company is repeatedly sued by its passengers … any company that makes it a matter of policy to LIE to its customers, employee people who give answers to questions by shrugging their shoulders and who also confess that they don’t even fly Delta Airlines because of their shitty service. The reason this is all surprising to me is that I never flew them before … and I never will again. Head on over to the site DeltaReallySucks.com to keep abreast of what a terrible airline this company is. They absolutely deserve to go out of business.

I can only hope that we make it London successfully tonight/tomorrow morning with our luggage in hand … the rest of our travels are governed by Air France, an airline that offers impeccable customer service, as far as I’m concerned.

Wish us luck … hopefully I’ll be coming atcha from the other side of the pond tomorrow.

That is totally unacceptable! What a mess, I’m so sorry that your trip hasn’t even started yet because of some mistake made by irresponsible people. I hope that your luggage makes it to London without any problems and that you make it there without any trouble!! Safe Travels! xo

  2. Nicole Says:

I had a similar situation with United a few months ago. The airline industry as a whole is just going down the tubes =\

Best of luck getting to London & getting your luggage… I would recommend writing a letter to Delta’s Customer Service line as well…

  3. FK Says:

That sounds awful! I’m glad you have a forum like this in which to call them out. The airlines in this country have become so outrageously bad. I’m glad to hear that Air France still seems to be treating its customers well. I, for one, will follow your lead and stay away from Delta. These airlines need to shape up! You are the voice of the people, Trent! ;) Has anyone had any GOOD experiences on any airlines recently?

  4. Amy Says:

A Delta Rep in Daytona Beach was rude and inconsiderate after our luggage didn’t make it onto the plane from ATL with us. All she did was shrug her shoulders and say “Thats it!” with a mean smile on her face as three bags made their way around the baggage claim belt.

  5. Rhiakell Says:

Trent I had a similar experience with Delta between Chicago and Florida trying to get to my cousins funeral. On top of everything i had to deal with with that, I had to wrestle with Delta canceling 2 of out of my 4 flights and then losing my luggage. Unacceptable. I hope the rest of your trip is great, cheers!

  6. ginae Says:

oh i’m *so* sorry to hear about your problems :(
i will never fly delta & i will definitely spread the word!!!!

  7. Dan Waldron Says:

Would you be interested in exchanging blogrolls links with my site? Please email me if you are interested

  8. Donna Says:

I also had a similar situation with United. My flight was missing a pilot, so we ended up stranded at the airport for a good 5 hours. The pilot who ended up flying our plane told the passengers to email him their complaint, so that he can forward it on to the CEO. To calm down other irate passengers, the company gave us all $10 vouchers for McDonalds at the airport.

  9. DivaPie Says:

I guess when David’s luggage went missing 2 weeks ago and took 24 hours to show up, you should have stuck to your vow to never fly Delta.

Meh, live and learn…. countdown to Kylie 2 days and counting :)

    Have a blast!

  10. Jennifer Farrell Says:

The last time I flew Delta, they did the same thing. Except it was a national flight. But it was the same song and dance about a crew having to divert because they’d been working too many hours and then the replacement crew never showed up. They kept our luggage and weren’t going to give us hotel rooms until a number of people complained.

    Bit AirTran is the worst.

  11. Christian Says:

Blah :( United and Delta both suck. You should give try Virgin Atlantic next time, my friend just came back home from London on Virgin, and said it was amazing.

  12. Liz Says:

We have a running joke that DELTA stands for Doesn’t Ever Leave The Airport.

  13. AmyM Says:

    good luck and safe flight!

  14. Lauren Says:

I am so sorry - Never fly Delta. I learned my lesson upon return from Maryland - they left me in LA after inexplicable delays. I lost a day, slept in a random hotel, they kept my luggage, I had to cruise to the corner store near LAX to buy contact solution at 1 am after all was said and done. It was - literally - one of the scariest neighborhoods I’ve ever walked through! And I’m from southern California! The next day I finally reached my destination - humiliated. It’s humiliating! I will email you my favorite email forward, hopefully this will bring comfort to a horrible situation. I “state your name” promise to never fly Delta. Ever.

  15. D Says:

I SO AGREE WITH YOU. DELTA SUCKS! lol I flew to Russia on Delta. On the way home, we made it to NYC and they cancelled all flights to Pittsburgh (even though every other airline was flying to Pittsburgh) They said it was due to bad weather in Pittsburgh (Not true! It was sunny!) I would have been stuck in the airport overnight. Instead I opted to go stay with a relative and return the next day at 6pm for my flight. I ended up getting food poisoning, went to the airport horribly sick. Got there and they kept changing the gate of my plane (unannounced!) then they delayed it until 8pm and cancelled it AGAIN! I had to go back with my relative and my family drove 8 hours from Pittsburgh to New York to pick me up.

Delta refused to give me a refund, any food vouchers, let alone any hotel discounts. They wouldn’t even give me my luggage back! I got it a week later and they broke almost all of my souvenirs from Russia!

  16. Lauren Says:

Hey - at least you didn’t miss Kylie!

  17. Tara Says:

So sorry to hear this Trent.
That’s it for Delta and me as well. I cannot imagine what a major pain in the @** this must be for you guys.
    Good Luck.
Enjoy London as much as you possibly can!

  18. Susan Says:

    Don’t ever fly United either!!!!!
    There customer service is HORRIBLE

  19. Amy S Says:

I had almost the same experience on Delta just a week ago and almost missed my own baby shower. I don’t want to scare you, but I only got my luggage the day before I left. I said the same things during my ordeal too. If only they would be upfront about the whole situation - how could they not know there was no pilot ahead of time? Or in my case, that a freak storm had made the crew late and they needed their rest. Tell people ahead of time, they might be less mad if they at least have a chance to make other arrangements. Instead of a nice visit with my family, they had us to come back to the airport twice a day to check on my baggage. They weren’t able to track my bag somehow. The people at the check-in desks couldn’t understand why I was so mad.

One time I had a huge delay stranded on a plane in the middle of two women who couldn’t keep from fighting with each other. The reason for the delay? The food hadn’t shown up yet. We were delayed as long for that reason as the whole flight would have taken.

Sorry man, you hit a raw nerve with me on this issue.

  20. goldend Says:

How sad to hear that, I recently went to Europe with Delta and I don’t have complaints but I keep hearing bad things about Delta so probably I won’t fly with them again.

  21. Teresa Says:

I booked flights to Europe a year ago on Air France and ended up flying Delta the entire trip. I guess they are partners. I would double check when you book Air France tickets to make sure you are not actually getting Delta.

  22. Ella Says:

Good luck with Air France. I just hope you are not for some reason flying through Charles DeGaulle on the way (probably not). If so, you’d better have at least a 2 hour layover because in my extensive experience with that airline, they always arrive late at CDG, then have you book it through the poorly marked and totally confusing airport only to arrive to a closed or missed flight. This happened to me so many times I made the same vows about Air France that you’re making about Delta.

  23. Mr. Gyllenhaal Says:

Kee your head up! You will get there. BEST WISHES

  24. Winona Says:

Ugh - I was wondering why we were still getting updates from you. Hang in there and I hope all turns out for the best. I’ll be flying United in September - and gee, I just can’t wait now. *rolling eyes* Definitely, you should write a tersely-worded email to the higher-ups at Delta.

  25. gaby Says:

oh god im flying next tuesday on delta guys. oh noez!

  26. Megan Says:

Delta screwed me over on a flight home from Europe a few weeks ago. DO NOT fly delta. I agree.

  27. Brayden Says:

Delta is the fucking worst. Do they just hire ANYONE who looks like the could be a douche in hopes that they are?

  28. danalee Says:

I know the feeling. Just a few weeks ago I was stranded in NYC - JFK for several hours after spending 24 hours transferring from Hong Kong on a different and way better airline… Delta’s plane broke and we had to wait for a new one and ended up being the red eye back to florida. This was all after they changed gates on us and I paid way too much for slightly heavy baggage. The only thing they said was “Sorry”. At least I got some extra Biscoff cookies.

  29. Katt Says:

so sorry, that sucks!!!! i hope the rest of your trip goes fabulously and you have a great time!

  30. Brandi Says:

Dang it! I didn’t need to hear that. I’m flying to IL tomorrow and have to catch a plane in ATL from Austin. I don’t need any bad luck because there is less than a hour between flights and we’re dealing with the left over of hurricane here in TX.

  31. Melinda Says:

Delta airlines is the worst. My mother was flying them on 9/11……luckily her plane was safe and was grounded in Atlanta (not where she was going)………and then the shit started. They were grounded for 4 days and Delta was so crappy to their passengers………not providing food or a place to stay…….can you imagine that you were up in the air in the worst disaster on US soil since Pearl Harbor……….you are then grounded in a city where you were not expecting to be……..and then left to fend for yourself during such a scary time. Delta sucks ass………..and shame on them for what they are doing to you guys. If I am not mistaken………they OWE you because this is their fault, not yours, not act of God………..and frankly I would be moving up the chain at Delta until they credited me for my lost hotel and destroyed trip!! shame shame shame!!! My thoughts are with you………hope you guys get over there and start your vacay!

  32. Amy Says:

All US airlines are bad. I lived in Europe for 4 months and did a lot of traveling around. I never had an issue with any of the European airlines, even the cheap ones like RyanAir and Air Berlin. But when I flew over there on Continental and on one of my flights back on US Air I had so many delays. Even the people working the European airlines were nicer than the ones on the American flights. I don’t get why we can’t have the same service here.

  33. Jessy Says:

That sucks! I am flying Delta to Detroit in a couple of weeks and am dreading it. They were cheapest and I caved under financial pressure.

  34. natalie Says:

that really sucks. i have had troubles with delta too.

  35. Cacha Says:

I recently flew to Europe in May.. and I used British Airways, with a connection at Heathrow on the way to Rome. They had the best service I’ve EVER had! you may pay a little bit more but the service it great, as is the food!
if you’re on your way to London, you might wanna know that G-A-Y is gonna be closing!

  36. David Says:

    Delta Airlines sucks, Bitches!!!

  37. ERIN Says:

OMG… I read your blogs all the time and I’m not much a blogger myself, but I just HAD to respond to this one…

I just returned from a week on the east coast and I flew home on Delta, which I never normally fly b/c they aren’t very big in St.Louis, but anyway, I had the most AWFUL experience trying to get home. I got to the airport for my 4pm flight at 12pm, just to be safe. After a 2 hour delay we finally took off for JFK to pick up more passengers, we were told NOT to get off the plane, then when we got there they ordered us to get off the plane. I had no other bording pass and only one flight number but, unfortunately, I got off the airplane as requested to find out there were no flights to St. Louis and they were totally unconcerned about trying to find one for me and the other 4 people that were going through the same ordeal.

We finally spoke with a manager who set us up for first-class flights the next morning and promised us we’d get home before 9am. UGH, I got back to the ticket counter the next morning at 4am after no sleep, no luggage, and having to take an extra day of vacation, to find out he NEVER booked us on those flights and the ticket lady had absolutely no compassion for our situation.

Long story short, it took me another day and 3 lay overs in different cities to finally make it home and I REFUSE absolutely REFUSE to EVER FLY DELTA AGAIN…

  38. diane Says:

well trent you have me nervous now…in a couple weeks i’m going to be flying delta to my honeymoon. ahhhh!!!

  39. Supernetuser Says:

    Wow that really sucks.

  40. Jisun Says:

crazy! they did the same thing to me last month. my flight from NYC to SF took 17 hours because of one excuse after the other. delta didn’t give us any food, and told us that if we got off the plane, we couldn’t get our luggage. when i called the customer reps, the woman said, not delta’s fault, and after it was clear that she wasn’t going to give me anything, still insisted on talking over me and arguing with me. i emailed delta to let them know the number of ways in which they screwed up, and they gave me $50. i’m never going to fly delta again.

  41. Emily Says:

Similarly to Liz above, I use the acronym for DELTA: Don’t Expect Luggage To Arrive. After multiple bad experiences, I have also sworn them off. good luck and can’t wait to hear from you on the other side!

  42. Valerie Says:

I said the exact same thing about flying DELTA two years ago. We were flying from BWI to Atlanta to catch a flight to Costa Rica when we had an on board medical emergency and had to be diverted to a tiny little airport in SC. No problem, I totally understand. We were on the ground for about an hour. Apparently they can’t just let you land and then take off again. The flight staff assured us that every effort would be made for us to get on our flights and that they were already working on other arrangements. So by the time we get to Atlanta we are only have about 20 minutes until our flight for Costa Rica is taking off. We run for to the international terminal and get to the gate with about a minute to spare. The plane has already pulled away from the gate. International flights depart early, as opposed to all the US flights are consistently late. And no one contacted them about the 8 passages that were delayed because o f this flight. No one was helpful. We were stuck in the Atlanta airport for 7 hours waiting for the next flight. I only got food vouchers after I bitched and complained and even then it was only for $7. It was absolutely ridiculous. By the time we got to Costa Rica it was dark so we couldn’t drive to our first destination b/c it is not adviced to drive after dark so we had to find another hotel and waste the next day driving when we should have been hiking around a volcano. I said it then and I have stuck to it. I will never fly DELTA again!!!!

As a side note, my uncle works for DELTA in Atlanta and he couldn’t even do anything to help us and he has been with the company for almost 30 years. He said the customer service is terrible and that this would have never happened 10 years ago. It was a lousy way to begin a vacation so I feel your pain!!!

  43. Matt Says:

Yeah you won’t fly delta until it offers another cheap fare. Hum…this sounds like a recent rant like Andy Towle’s on Towleroad about his missing luggage. Maybe there is a gay Delta employee that will read this and gravel at your feet.

  44. Amber Says:

    *hugs*

  45. Hells Kitchen Guy Says:

I have had only had terrific experiences on Delta. How dumb to dump on an entire airline when one flight out of thousands did not go your way. Have you never traveled before? Is this your first flight?

  46. Eve Says:

I’ve been flying with Delta for 16 years, and never had a serious problem. Sure there has been the delays, cancellations, and missing luggage, but that is the AIRLINE BUSINESS. It happens. It’s not perfect. And it really bothers me when people expect perfection from everybody else. Not everybody who works for an airline is rainbows and sunshine, especially when they have people screaming at them all day about problems that aren’t even that big of a deal.
So if you fly American Airlines next and they lose your luggage, are you going to post saying never to fly American?

I’m flying to Hawaii in September on Delta, and I’m looking forward to it. Love those Skymiles.

  47. JenniferLopez Says:

Delta is great. My BF is a flight attendant — so piss off!

  48. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

If Delta works for you, great — they don’t work for me. I fly monthly and have relatively excellent experience with Jet Blue and marginally with Northwest. The difference here is that at every turn Delta employees offer no help and take no responsibility. I don’t expect perfection (and surely no airline can offer perfection) but I expect professionalism. In my experience, Delta does not offer that … and I will continue to suggest to anyone in earshot that they never fly Delta — and if they do, it’s at their own peril.

  49. Kerry Says:

Trent - I just got back from visiting my boyfriend in London and I flew on United Airlines which was operated through BMI (British Midland). I had a good experience on both the flight out there and the return flight. Try them next time! Hopefully you can enjoy the rest of your trip! :)

  50. NOLA Says:

Last time I flew Delta, that SO effed up our travel that I vowed to never fly them again. They “gratiously” mailed me a $100 voucher to use towards future travel, which I promptly shredded and mailed back to them. I am going away this weekend, and happily driving…in my beetle bug…Up your Delta. If their employees had any brains, they’d quit.

  51. Downtown Says:

Delta works for a lot of people, Trent. I have had bad experiences on many airlines - American West (worst) the Worst. I went to London on Delta and was upgraded to business class for no reason. I think the flight attendant was hitting on me - but it is an awesome airline.

  52. Chelita Says:

I will take a free voucher for a flight if anyone else is dumb enough to shred $100!!!! Baby needs a trip to LA!!!!!!!

  53. Forgoff Says:

    Halla, Chelita.

  54. Travelbuff Says:

Melinda is a total loser for trying to blame any airlline for a problem during 9/11. Are you from a trailer you piece of trash. Many of us lost relatives an friends at 9/11 — and to complain about your mother who is ALIVE — screw you!

  55. Heather Says:

Remember back when Delta’s tagline was “we love to fly and it shows?” The LAST time I flew Delta, I decided they had changed it to “we hate our jobs and it shows.” They also do nasty things like declare bankruptcy to avoid negotiating union contracts and paying out pensions.

A BIG POOP SANDWICH to Delta airlines!!!!!!

  56. JenZ Says:

Delta did the same to me on a flight home from Madrid earlier this year. Boarded us, let us sit there, then told us the pilot was flying up from another airport. Let us get off the plane, then we re-boarded HOURS later when the pilot finally got there (he wasn’t on the first flight, as previously reported). Back on the plane, we taxi out to the runway, and then get an announcement that the co-pilot has timed out, adn since we hadn’t taken off we had to go back. So we de-boarded again, had to spend the night sleeping on the floor of JFK. They put us all on a special 6:30 AM flight, which Delta then cancelled at 6:00 AM because they had no flight crew. Finally got transferred to another airline, and made it home 26 hours later than scheduled. Dleta customer service couldn’t care less. No comps, just vague apologies. At least Delta screwed up my trip on the way HOME, and didn’t interfere with my actual vacation. So sorry, Trent — good luck with today’s journey!

  57. SissyforFist Says:

Heather needs to poop in her own mouth - as she is so ignorant about how airlines work. Bankrupt to avoid contracts? How about bankrupt to protect the thousands of employees who have jobs during tough times and who are happy to have a job — and were forced to be members of the union?

  58. Goforit Says:

I think American Airlines sucks with taking out the ice cream carts in first class where they use to make Hot Fudge Sundays. And Continental that no longer servers import beer in first class. Or Jet Blue that does not even offer first class.

  59. bentley Says:

    What airline IS perfect?

  60. Pablo Says:

Trent, never ever fly Delta! We live overseas and whenever I fly I make it a point never to use any US Airline. The service is just appalling and the planes are dirty. Next time, use Virgin or BA!

  61. Ernie Says:

I don’t want to speak for Trent, but it seems that although he is upset about the flight be canceled, he is most upset about poor customer service. I would think that if the people at Delta had been honest and accommodating it would have helped the sucky situation. I’ve worked in retail for years, and it’s amazing what great customer service can do! I know that it is a business, and mistakes happen, but what happened to just being nice and helpful to a group of passengers who found themselves stranded? Trent, have a fabulous time, and I’m not going to fly Delta either!

  62. MMA Says:

For whatever it’s worth I fly Delta all the time, and trust me, they’re not the worst. I have yet to be on an Airtran flight that is on time and several times have sat on the runway until the wee hours of the morning. In addition I just returned from Israel on a Continental flight that was inexplicably delayed an hour and a half, causing me to miss my connection. And even though my connection was on Delta, on of Cont.’s partners, they wouldn’t put me on a Cont. flight since my itinerary w/ them ended in that city. I had to use my father-in-laws Airtran credits to get out of Newark (and yes, that flight was delayed.)

In terms of what you can do, there is a passangers bill or rights you can google and find online, it will tell you what your options are in this situation.

    Good luck.

  63. Chloe Says:

Delta is ASS! I had the worst time with them last month when flying back from NYC. I was actually yelled at by a ticket agent!

If I could fly Jet Blue everywhere I would, they have to be the best airline I’ve ever flown on just in terms of courtesy, comfort, affordability, and timeliness. I’ve flown US Air forever and their OK, but I am a Jet Bluer for life!

  64. Irma Says:

In my experience with Delta, I only had one bad one coming back from JFK where they switched us from plane to plane because they said the planes weren’t ready. It was annoying as hell but more so because I had just gotten off an 8 hour flight from Madrid to New York.

  65. Cynthia Says:

Just two months ago we flew into Dallas on American - ran to our connecting flight since the screens said it was boading “earlier than our itinerary” get there out of breath…check in at the gate & the attendants said “Oh its running behind only 45 mins. [laughter]”

I sarcastically said oh 45 minutes b/c we’ve been stuck in Dallas for over 6+ hours. The agent laughed again at us and said “Oh 45 mins is good for us”. I resolved again I wont fly American ever again and honestly I am pretty much fed up with flying any company right now. Seriously when the airlines start going DOWN due to lack of passengers over their insane fees, lack of food and shitty customer service may be than they will bend over and kiss our a$$ back onto the plane.

  66. Mo Says:

I know exactly how u feel! i flew to ireland a couple of months ago on delta and it was HORRIBLE! Will never make that mistake again! Take care in London and I hope everything works out for u guys in the end.

  67. COSMO Guy Says:

This is absolutely bull shit. I hate companies that expect to stay in business, when they provide a shitty service! Get real!!
    Cosmo Guy

  68. Keely Says:

Sorry to hear things went so bad for you.

My mother was a Delta Flight Attendant for 34 years, retired a few years ago. According to her, the last few years of her employment were really rough, and it sounds like they’re getting worse.

The airline industry’s changed greatly, and not in good ways either.

Hope your next airline experience goes much more smoothly!

  69. Sarah Says:

    Don’t
    Expect
    Luggage
    To
    Arrive

  70. Emily Says:

I know exactly how you feel! I was flying out of DC for thanksgiving one year and was 5 minutes late for check in and the MANAGER laughed in my face and told me I should have gotten there earlier….then when I started to cry (because he laughed and yelled at me) he laughed at me more and told me I needed to leave. I refuse to ever fly that airline again, and so far, 7 years later, I have managed to avoid them.

Have a great time in London and Paris! I’m so jealous!

  71. Andrea Says:

Aww that is really too bad. It’s not fair at all that they can get away with stuff like that. I sincerely hope that the rest of your trip goes smoothly and i hope you have a wonderful time, you sure deserve it after all the trouble you’ve gone through :)

  72. lil b Says:

always fly british airways - they are the best ever. always on time, the food is really yummy and the entertainment is awesome!

  73. Kerstin Says:

That exact thing happened to me with Continental Airlines when I was supposed to go on a school trip to Italy! We called the local news and got on tv. Guess what - once the news crew showed up and started filming, we all of a sudden found ourselves with a rebooked flight, food vouchers and a complimentary hotel stay w/ room service. Wouldn’t have happened if the media hadn’t gotten involved.

BTW - LONDON IS AMAZING!!!! Go eat at Wagamama - my absolute favorite

  74. chrystal Says:

Is Delta still merging with Northwest? I am not looking forward to that.

  75. Kyla Says:

I want to be a flight attendant and last year Delta was my first choice… now I am attending an open house for Omni Air Int’l on the 31st of this month, & I have also heard back from Ryan Int’l. Now you couldn’t pay me to fly Delta, as I can fly internationally right away with these other two lines. I think lesser known is always the way to go…

    what do you guys think?

  76. journeyman Says:

they’re all partners - delta, air france, continental, and many many more - see here: http://www.skyteam.com/skyteam

  77. sleep Says:

    oh.

  78. Lolainchesaway Says:

Trend darling fly Virgin instead. They have a nonstop flight to Heathrow from L.A. everyday and I tell you it makes any American airline seem like a punishment from god. Matter of fact I will be flying them on Wednesday and I can’t wait : ). If you’re going to the U.K. fly Virgin or British Ways people as you can see by Trent’s experience you’ll save yourself the grief even if cost a few more dollars in the end the service you get is worth it…

  79. Lolainchesaway Says:

By the way the only time I ever flew Delta they lost my luggage and I had to wait 2 flights from L.A. to get it back. Fun times!!!

  80. Natty Says:

WOW! My uncle is an employee of Delta and I just called him at 1am and cursed him out for you. Is that a little better? His words were “them effers”.

    Have fun in London!

  81. Jenny Says:

I spent my entire last semester in London and can say American is the best way to fly to London(just not in the states). Get some Montezuma chocolate for me!!
You should come to Oz where I am right now!!

  82. peng Says:

I’ve had my share of awful experiences with Air France in CDG, similar to what Ella said above. But good luck with them. I sure hope they don’t screw you over like Delta did.

i hope you get there soon. i will NEVER fly delta again unless they change their name, planes, service, and customer service levels which are currently shit. my husband and i were scheduled to fly out to key west for my sister’s wedding. less than two weeks before we were supposed to leave i got a text message that out flights were changed. they put us on a red eye and then we had an 18 hour layover and on the return flight we had to leave at 6am, had another 18 hour layover and would have had to take two extra flights home adding a whole extra day onto our trip. F that! i called them and they had no explanation for the change. they asked me if i didn’t just want to keep the new itinerary. i told the idiot i paid over $100 extra plus per ticket to have the shortest flight time and layover to make the wedding! DUH. they did not offer to help me find any other delta flights. they did not offer me a refund. they did not offer to help me re-book on another airline. i was irate. so i found better flights on northwest. i called delta back and demanded a refund and told them to F off. NEVER AGAIN! DELTA SUCKS! assholes.

be thankful, though, that this has never happened to you: http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/07/25/jet.emergency/index.html how scary would this be?!

  86. michelle Says:

Yeah - Air France is owned by Delta. Never had a problem on Delta, but if you hate them, not sure how you’re going to do much better with Air France

  87. kellye Says:

i also recently vowed never to fly delta again. i can’t complain about being left on the runway b/c they refused to allow me to fly on their airline, even though i had bought a ticket.

Delta has a round trip policy that if you don’t take your first flight, they will automatically cancel your second flight. And they will very very very RUDELY tell you this when you call. They will give you every excuse in the book. (it’s round trip, it’s priceline, it’s already in our computers)

Mind you, I was not asking for a refund. I was not asking that they change my initial flight. I was simply asking that I be allowed to use the second half of the ticket that I paid my hard-earned money for.

I even emailed the ceo and was pretty much told “oh well. feel free to pay $200 in ticket changes and fees to fly your return flight.”

Yeah, AirFrance isn’t so great either. My luggage for my 9 day trip in Italy didn’t arrive to me until day 8, thanks to AirFrance.

And we had to fight them to compensate me for all the things I had to buy in Italy to clothe and bathe myself.

    Lovvvvvve AirFrance.

  91. Dan Says:

Come on- ALL airlines have issues. Delta is better then United or American. It was just one of those things that happens. It does suck about losing the Hotel though. I always get Hotel Insurance when I travel so if something with the flight goes wrong they refund your money. You should look into that and quit bitching so much.

  92. Sammykat Says:

Delta BLOWS!!! I was stuck in Utah for hours because of their inept service. I feel ya Trent about the shrugging. They never have any infomation.

  93. isabelle Says:

A friend of mine flew from Paris to NY with Air France recently and hade a TERRIBLE experience. The customer service was non-existent and she was treated terribly. She’s asked all the people she knows to never fly with them!
Hope your experience with them will be better!

  94. Nadine Says:

SAME HAPPENED TO ME ON DELTA! THey are awful - never flying them again and I will skip around with glee when they finally go out of business!!

  95. Ashley Says:

OMG DELTA SUCKS! I just came back from Paris a week ago (supposedly on Delta) and they SCREWED ME OVER!!! and moreoever, they gave me NO compensation. Ridiculous! Never, ever again!

  96. mel Says:

i think it is a little ridiculous that you have to go on and on about how not to fly delta. my dad is a pilot for delta and has been for 30 years. i really enjoy reading your gossip blog but after a uncalled for post like that i may have to find another gossip blog to get my news from. yah delta does have their problems but so does every other airline. how would you like it if people wrote shit about your blog and told everyone never to read it… then maybe you would be out of a job… dont think you would like that so much. dont expect delta to go out of business anytime soon. oh and the dead body found is just something that happens to every airline and it happens a couple times a year, she died of natural causes not because of delta.

  97. Kali Says:

This makes me nervous!! I live in Minneapolis where our main airline Northwest is merging with Delta. I was already upset about this because Northwest is one of the only airlines I fly the other being SunCountry (another local airline) and now I really don’t want them to merge because Delta will just bring what use to be Northwest down with it!! I guess I should start shopping for a new airline. But SunCountry rocks and you should fly it if you ever need to come to Mpls!!!

  98. Colleen Says:

Delta does SUCK. Because they were so much cheaper, it took me a full year of flying to learn my lesson. Out of 12 flights from last August to the end of this June, I flew Delta for 9 of them and was delayed by more than 2 hours OR canceled each time. Finally, I had enough and unless they start paying ME to fly with them, I’m not ever giving my business to that piece of crap airline ever again. I had a customer service representative get up from behind the counter and WALK AWAY from me bc he did not want to answer my question about our delayed flight which later was canceled. Delta flying out of LGA in NYC is particularly the WORST experience you’ll ever have on a plane that doesn’t include it crashing.

Sorry for the rant, I have very strong opinions about the mess that is the airline industry, but most importantly Delta.
