Shannen Doherty In Talks To Return To ‘90210’

Holy Shizz! Holy Shizz! Holy Shizz! Holy Shizz!
July 2nd, 2008

Ye Gods! There is some great news going around today concerning the new Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off (which apparently took my advice and decided to go with the name 90210) and the possibility of another BH, 90210 alumna reprising their role on the new show. Michael Ausiello (formerly of TV Guide, now with Entertainment Weekly) is reporting that the EFFING AWESOME Shannen Doherty is in talks to reprise her role of Brenda Walsh on the new spin-off … which would kinda complete my life:

Those of you who know me know that nothing brings me more happiness than a good, old-fashioned Shannen Doherty item. So it seems only fitting that I should kick off my new EW gig with a juicy yarn about the legendary Hollywood hellraiser. And it’s not just any yarn, either — it’s the best yarn ever! Multiple sources confirm to me exclusively that Doherty is currently engaged in formal talks to — wait for it, wait for it — reprise her role of Brenda Walsh on The CW’s breathlessly anticipated 90210 update! According to my Peach Pit mole, Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, the producers behind el nuevo 90210, recently met with the tempestuous tabloid mainstay to gauge her interest in returning to the zip code from which she was banished in 1994. And by all accounts, she is interested. “But,” whispers an insider with close ties to the reboot, “she wants to know what the story is going to be first.” She also wants more money than they’re apparently offering. Yet creative/financial issues may not be the biggest obstacles standing in the way of Doherty’s homecoming. The anger-management poster gal has left a long list of enemies in her wake, among them once and possibly future co-stars Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth. Doherty and Garth, in particular, got along so badly, they were like a ’90s version of Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. (A fistfight between them was even chronicled in Spelling’s recent memoir.) So while Doherty’s willingness to return suggests she’s ready to let bygones be bygones, the feeling may not be mutual. “There’s still some animosity there,” acknowledges a source, who says Garth wasn’t exactly jumping for joy upon learning of Doherty’s potential hiring. However, counters Garth, “A lot of time has passed, and I’m a big girl. I’d have no problem with her coming on the show.” That still doesn’t resolve the pesky issue of Doherty’s less-than-stellar rep. “They should demand good behavior and get rid of her quick if they don’t get it,” muses one top TV producer. “The danger is that the show becomes a big hit, and her participation is seen as essential. If that happens, and she’s still a disruptive, dysfunctional actor, then they’ve got a big mess.” But nearly everyone seems to agree on one thing: It’s a risk worth taking. “This is a win-win for all parties,” points out a 90210 source. “Shannen has a shot to get back in the public eye and make things right with the show that gave her her career, and the CW can generate some much-needed buzz and guarantee some major sampling of 90210.”

Insert Happy Dance [HERE]. The bottom line is that they better work out the deal with her … having Shannen Doherty on the show, bad girl or not, would automatically lend weight to the project and would stir up the kind of buzz that both Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth combined can’t generate. If Shannen signs on, I’m there … absolutely and entirely on board. What awesome, awesome news :)

I loved Shannen on Charmed, but I dont think 90210 will be able to offer her the kind of big role Shannen seems to usualyy want. Would be sad to see her go after one season.

  5. Monica Says:

I love me some Brenda but I don’t think she belongs on this particular show anymore. I prefer the legacy that she left behind. Most people still refer fondly to those first few years as “The Brenda Years” and if both she and Luke Perry pass on the show, while Jennie Garth is on, we can all assume that Dylan and Kelly broke up and Brenda and Dylan are off somewhere on some romantic adventure!

  6. Aidan Says:

Alumna is the feminine singular, while alumnus is the masculine signature; alumni is the plural for both. Hey, I finally found a use for that Latin degree! *is smug*

But ZOMFG YAY! *cartwheels* Shannen signing on is the ONLY thing that could make me watch this retread show. *rubs hands together* I wonder what she plans to do to Tori (since Bucket Lips dissed La Doherty in her crappy book). Even if Shannen only makes some rounds and then departs because of ‘creative differences’, it could only make the show better. You know, because she can, like, ACT. *glee*

And I love Jennie, but suck it up, honey. You need all the press you can get for this show, because everyone knows it’s going to be Gossip Girl’s ugly stepsister returning to town after being hidded in a sanitarium for the homely homicidal.

    Shannen, Shannen, Shannen! w00t!

  7. Sarah Says:

“I hate you both, never talk to me again.” –Brenda after learning of Kelly & Dylan’s love affair.

The show was always missing something after she left. I think I might just die of excitement if she was brought back on. WEE!

hahaha! I know this makes me 12yrs old… and incredibly immature… but I don’t care if she is on the show. Team Kelly! Woot!

  10. Sel Says:

Woohoo! I hope she does sign up, that’d be absolutely fantastic!!! So exciting! It’d be great to have Shannen back on tv again, and on 90210 - WOW!!! :D :D :D
