Rihanna was among the guests at Capital FM’s Jingle Bell Ball which was held at the 02 Arena Docklands in London, England last night and used to opportunity to show off her new fingernail art:

Last night the American Music Awards were handed out on live TV at the Nokia Theater here in Los Angeles, CA. Stars of varying importance made their way into downtown LA last night to walk the red carpet, participate in the show or mug for the cameras in the press room afterward. Chris Brown was one of the night’s big winners … Kanye West was one of the night’s biggest wieners … and Beyoncé, bless her heart, gave the best live performance of the night. Chris Brown was the big winner at the American Music Awards on Sunday night, surprising himself most of all. “I don’t know what to say. I would have given it to Coldplay,” said Brown, who won artist of the year, male pop/rock artist and male soul/R&B artist. Kanye West, still sore at losing male rap/hip-hop artist last year, won the trophy this time – then said Lil Wayne deserved it more. “I want to give this award to Wayne,” he said. “If it was last year it would have been my award.” It was West’s second trophy of the night, following his win for rap/hip-hop album, for Graduation. “It’s our responsibility as musicians to push music to the point it was in the ’60s and ’70s,” he said. “I want to be Elvis.” Host Jimmy Kimmel, who had made West’s ego a running joke, quipped: “Elvis died on the toilet with half a jelly doughnut in his mouth. You may want to rethink that.”

Um, why does Kanye have to be so douchey? I mean, seriously. It’s like he just cannot stop himself from acting like a total a-hole on the public stage. I just don’t get it.

The show climaxed with Keys performing “Superwoman” with Queen Latifah and opera star Kathleen Battle, and ending with a large photo projected on a screen of incoming first lady Michelle Obama. In a big night for American Idol alums, Daughtry – winner of three trophies last year – picked up another this year for pop/rock group, while former Idol champ Jordin Sparks won for adult contemporary music, and Carrie Underwood won for country album for Carnival Ride. Taylor Swift, uncomfortably sharing L.A.’s Nokia Theatre auditorium with ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas, won for female country artist, and Rihanna got two awards for pop/rock female artist and female soul R&B artist … Music’s A-listers were out in force as the show featured blockbuster performances by Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, Rihanna, West, birthday girl Miley Cyrus and Jonas Brothers, who also won the breakthrough artist award. And Justin Timberlake made a surprise appearance to introduce award of merit recipient Annie Lennox.

Much congrats to all the winners this year but, I gotta say, the “prestige” associated with winning an American Music Award seems to have diminished a bit — after all, the soundtrack to the movie Alvin and the Chipmunks took home an award last night.

Various celebs made their way to The Plaza in NYC last night to attend an event to celebrate the Gucci launch of their new Tattoo Heart Collection — which is a limited edition collection of accessories that will benefit UNICEF’s campaign to aid children affected by HIV/AIDS in Malawi. SMOKING-HOT songbird Rihanna teamed up with Gucci’s Frida Giannini last night at the brand’s Fifth Avenue store for the worldwide launch of the limited-edition Tattoo Heart Collection to benefit UNICEF. Twenty-five percent of sales from the handbags, shoes and accessories ($410-4,995) will benefit children affected by HIV/AIDS in Malawi and Mozambique. Items will be on sale through Jan. 31.

Madonna was in the hiz last night for the Gucci event (despite the fact that she just signed on to be the new face of Louis Vuitton for ‘09) lookin’ pretty good … except for pretty much everything she was wearing. I mean, I love me some Madonna, but I think she’s wearing that Hawaiian grass skirt wrong. Rihanna, who is featured in the Gucci ads to promote the Tattoo Heart Collection, was lookin’ pretty fierce in her pretty dress. Rihanna and Chris Brown have been spotted sportin’ some matching new ink on their hands recently and it was speculated that the tats, while identical, were only temporary. Well, according to Ri Ri herself, the tattoos are permanent tribal designs that ChRihanna got done in New Zealand and represent strength and love … interesting, no?

Got ink? Rihanna certainly does. The singer showed off a new tattoo on her right wrist Wednesday, as she chatted with reporters at a UNICEF event. “It’s tribal,” she said at the charity’s annual Snowflake Lighting Ceremony in New York’s Grand Army Plaza. “It represents strength and love.” Rihanna also revealed that she got the exotic-looking tat while in New Zealand for a recent tour date. “It’s their traditional way of tattooing,” she said of the Maori-inspired geometric design. “I always wanted [one].” But even for a tattoo enthusiast like Rihanna, this particular method had one big drawback: “It hurt like hell!” The “Disturbia” singer has a number of other tats – including a cluster of stars on her neck. Yes, boyfriend Chris Brown does have a matching set of star tattoos … and now ChRihanna also have matching tribal tattoos as well. Some people just give each other promise rings, these two seem happy to make their commitment to one another more permanent. I really hope these two do stay together forever cuz getting matching tattoos seems a pretty big step. How long ’til they tattoo their names on one another?

You may recall that last month Rihanna teamed up with Justin Timberlake to shoot a new music video (her 87th) from her latest album Good Girl, Gone Bad. A new fan-recorded video has made its way to the Internets that appears to show Rihanna fainting while on stage with Chris Brown during a concert in Sydney, Australia this week. Because the video is choppy and not very clear, it’s not entirely clear just what happened to Rihanna during this incident but her spokespeople are saying that she did not faint, that she is “fine” and will be ready to perform at future shows. Here is the video in question, so that you can judge for yourself and info provided by Rihanna’s people explaining what they say happened:

Rihanna may have had a rough night Down Under on Thursday, but contrary to other online reports, she didn’t faint on stage, Access Hollywood has learned. The pop star clutched her stomach while running off stage during a performance of “Umbrella” in Australia in footage posted on YouTube, and was rumored to have passed out shortly after. “It was very hot at the venue, so after Rihanna’s set was over, she went off stage and needed to sit down, catch her breath and have some water,” a rep for the star said in a statement to Access. “She is perfectly healthy and will be at her show tomorrow.” The star was joined on “Umbrella” by boyfriend Chris Brown, who finished the song solo after Rihanna left the stage.

I’m not sure if it really matters if the girl fainted, was dehydrated or simply wanted to sit her ass down … homegirl has been working like a mad woman for months now. I don’t blame Miss Ri Ri if she decided to say, “Later, bitches … I’m gonna take a nap right now” after all the hard work she’s being doing since she hit it big with her song Umbrella last year. I hope she did get rehydrated or unfaited or whatever and gets some rest. I got a soft spot in my heart for the little Miss … I don’t want her gettin’ ill or nothin’.
