Shannen Doherty Does ‘The Late Show’

Bet she never thought Letterman would come calling again
Friday, September 5th, 2008

Shannen Doherty paid a visit to The Late Show with David Letterman last night in order to do some promo work for her new show 90210. It was, apparently, Shannen’s first visit to the show since 1996. Here are a few pics of Shannen making her way out of the CBS Studios to post for pics and sign a few autographs for her adoring fans:

On the actual show itself, Shannen wore a completely different outfit (tho, I think I prefer this one) … and she managed to pull off a very charming interview, I thought. She talks about, among other things, her Catholic-inspired tattoo, the trials and tribulations of living in Malibu, CA and, of course, 90210. After the jump, check out video of Shannen’s Late Show appearance … (more…)

The ‘90210’ Ladies Get Down To Biz

They've now got a rep to keep
Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Here are a few pics of some of the ladies, both new and old, of 90210 on set here in the Los Angeles, CA area reporting for duty yesterday afternoon in order to film new scenes for upcoming eps for the show:

Shannen Doherty ain’t look all that hot in the unforgiving SoCal sun … actually, only Lori Loughlin looks like she’s ready for the cameras (little whipper-snappers AnnaLynne McCord and Shanae Grimes need to step up their respective games, yo). In any event, I’m sure each one of these ladies is very pleased with how well 90210 did in the ratings Tuesday night :) After the jump, check out the moment when Kelly Taylor re-met Brenda Walsh at the refurbished Peach Pit during the show’s series premiere … (more…)

9021-OK

ATTENTION: '90210' SPOILER ALERT WARNING
Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

So … 90210 finally debuted on The CW last night to much anticipation and speculation about the new incarnation of the hugely successful and beloved Beverly Hills, 90210 from the early ’90s. Right off the bat I have to admit that my fears have been put to rest, the new version of the hit series (thus far) seems to have all the necessary elements to make it a big hit for a whole new generation of viewers:

So as not to spoil anything for those of you who have yet to see the 2-hour series premiere last night I’m putting my comments about the show behind the cut. After the jump, check out my take on the new 90210(more…)

Shannen Doherty Steps Out Alone

Lovin\' all the attention
Sunday, August 31st, 2008

The resurrected 90’s “It” Girl Shannen Doherty (who is trying to reclaim her fame from days of yore by appearing in the much-anticipated Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off set to debut on The CW Tuesday night) stepped out on the town in Malibu, CA again this weekend in the only pair of cut-off jeans shorts the girl apparently owns. Here are pics of Shannen as she made her way into and then out of one of her favorite eateries this weekend:

Shannen is also featured on the cover of the current issue of US Weekly magazine where she talks to the mag about Tori Spelling’s lies … and not much else:

Fourteen years after leaving her career-defining role of Brenda Walsh on Beverly Hills, 90210, Shannen Doherty is finally sharing her side of the story to refute the “bad girl” label and set the record straight in the latest issue of Us Weekly, available now. Among the revelations: Doherty, who will reprise her character in four episodes of the CW’s 90210 revamp, denies a claim by Tori Spelling that she once got into a fistfight with Jennie Garth. “We never did,” Doherty, 37, tells Us. “I think I would remember Jennie’s fist connecting with a part of my body or a part of my face. It just goes to show you how people will lie,” she says of Spelling’s account in her autobiography.

I managed to peruse his issue of US Weekly at the bookstore this weekend and I read the entirety of Shannen’s interview … she got real pissy with the interviewer when asked if she would ever write a tell-all memoir and then was she was asked about any romance that she witnessed on the BH, 90210 set. Apparently, Shannen is no snitch and she’ll cut you if you ask her to spill. OOOOH man, I want Tori Spelling to join the new 90210 so bad now … I’m sure Shannen would like us to believe that she’s all grown up and mature now but I bet you any money if she came face to face with Tori Spelling something AWESOME would happen. I hope we get to find out.

Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth Do ‘Entertainment Weekly’

Back to School
Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Former on and off-screen friends/rivals/enemies Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth have, apparently, buried the hatchet and grown into maturity … at least, that’s the way it seems to have turned out now that the ladies are working together again, co-starring on the new Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off series that will debut on The CW next Tuesday, 09.02. Shannen and Jennie are both featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine … here is their cover photo and some excerpts from their joint interview with the mag:

EW: Did you ever think the two of you would be sitting here talking about playing Brenda Walsh and Kelly Taylor again?

Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty: [In unison] No.

Garth: I thought [Beverly Hills, 90210] had a beginning, middle, and an end. It was very neatly in its coffin and it was done. When they told me they were doing it, I thought: No! Like something sort of sacred was being disrupted. Some part of who I was and a piece of my history was being messed with. It took me a while to settle into that idea.

Doherty: Early on, my publicist got a call asking her “Would she do it?” I was kind of like, Why would I play Brenda Walsh again? There was an “I Hate Brenda” newsletter. Why would I possibly get myself back into that? I think it was too scary for me. I didn’t want to go back to people hating me. It just wasn’t something that I considered for a good chunk of time. At some point it hit me that this is what the fans wanted. They put a roof over my head. They allow me to eat and to feed my dogs. The only reason I survive is because of them. If there’s one way to possibly say thank you, it is to go back and play a character that you never even liked yourself.

EW: You didn’t like Brenda?

Doherty: There were parts of Brenda I loved. They just took her in a really odd direction that I didn’t necessarily agree with at the time. I still kind of look back and think, Eh, it’s not what I would have done, but I understand. Every show has to have that character full of teenage angst and drama. I think she was driven by insecurity that was at the root of everything.

EW: The other day you had your first scene together in 14 years. When did you last see each other before the scene and what was it like shooting together again?

Doherty: [Laughs] Oh, God. When was it? Ten years ago? I don’t know. A long time. I can only speak for myself, but being with someone I knew made it easier for me my first day on set. At least for me there was an appreciation that we’d been through the first 90210 together and now we’re going through it again, but in such a different way because we’re both adults now. The only weird thing was while we were trying to catch up everyone was watching us. Every single eyeball was on us. I don’t know what they were expecting. I was more interested in talking to her about Dancing With the Stars. I thought she did an amazing job.

Garth: There had been so much buildup. Everyone was asking me before what it was going to be like. I was like, “I don’t know. I haven’t talked to her in 10 or 15 years.” I had that tension and I started to let it get to me. Is she going to be nice? Is it going to be a bad environment? But when I saw her everything was fine. [To Shannen] I was going to call you and tell you this—I got your number from Gabe but I never called. I felt a certain comfort too in having you there and I did not think I would feel that way. It was at some point around 2 a.m., and I felt like it’s so nice to have someone here who is a partner, someone who knew where we’d been and what it was like with the real show.

Doherty: I think when you’re 18, your personalities conflict, and then you meet up 10 or 15 years later and the playing ground is totally different and you’re fine. Like Jennie said, of course there were nerves going in. But half of it was the buildup everyone else put on it. When I was driving to the set I was getting phone calls, and I finally turned my phone off because I thought, I have to go in there with a completely fresh attitude and start over and give everybody a chance and everybody has to give me a chance. Once I was able to turn all of that off, the first moment I saw her it was like, Okay, this is going to be good. It was like, “Hey.” Then a hug. It’s like going to a war together. You’ve already been in the trenches together. You learned so much from that first war. That second war, you know what you need to do to make the set the most peaceful environment you can possibly have.

EW: Okay, but back to the fistfight: fact or fiction?

Garth: I don’t think we ever hit each other.

Doherty: We had our moments.

Garth: I just remember being outside and the boys having to try to settle us down.

Doherty: No, we never punched each other.

Garth: Scratching? I’m not going to deny that.

OMG! Love. It! I think it’s neat that the girls are all chummy-chummy again … and I love that they are finally talking about the drama from the old days (something they never did publicly back in the day) before new drama has a chance to spring up (scratching?! love it love it love it). There may have not been any punches thrown last time but who knows what might happen if the girls start misbehaving again. After the jump, find out what Shannen thought about her portrayal in Tori Spelling’s book sTORI Telling and check out a few photos (and video) from Shannen and Jennie’s EW photoshoot … (more…)

‘90210’ Premieres In Malibu, CA

A toast to the much-anticipated 'Beverly Hills, 90210' spin-off
Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Beverly Hills, 90210 alums Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth joined the new crop of 90210 kids at a premiere event in Malibu, CA for the new CW spin-off which is set to debut on 09.02. It’s almost time y’all … we’re just days away from finding out if the new 90210 can live up to the hype and expectation of the stunning success of its predecessor … but for now, it’s just time to party. Here are a few pics from the event’s red carpet event last night:

Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth joined the cast of CW’s 90210 spin-off Saturday at a beachside bash to celebrate the show. The party took place on the Malibu shore - about 20 miles away from the Beverly Hills zip code, the AP reports. Doherty and Garth, who will reprise their roles as Brenda Walsh and Kelly Taylor in the new show, arrived separately. Joe E. Tata, who played Peach Pit owner Nat, also attended. Party guests expecting to get a glimpse of the show’s first episode were out of luck: The premiere was not screened. (The CW recently announced pre-broadcast copies of the series would not be distributed to TV reviewers and reporters as a “strategic marketing decision.”) Meanwhile, Garth recently said reuniting with Doherty (with whom she once got into a fistfight) wasn’t “as bad as I thought it would be. We’re both grown women, both professionals,” she told TV Guide. “Once we were working, it felt like a good fit.”

Tori Spelling, who continues to get the shaft from the new 90210 was, obvs, not in attendance at last night’s affair. Again, I’m excited at the prospect of the new show but I fear that expectations may be too high. I understand why the show’s producers are keeping the first ep under wraps until the series premieres next week but … I dunno, can it really live up to the hype? There are a lot of fond memories about the original show … I dunno if anything can really measure up.
