‘The Hills’: Birthday Bashed
Oh lord … here comes the drama … again. Last night, in the second ep of the new season of The Hills, we got a heaping helping of D-R-A-M-A that altho felt a wee bit staged managed to still inspire all those feelings of Oh No She Didn’t! that tend to come in growing doses on this series:
Stephanie Pratt (the She-Spencer) hosted a little birthday soiree and managed to concoct a little fireworks show of her own … we got to see some new faces, some old faces and a particularly scary face that doesn’t look like it’s going away anytime soon. After the jump, find out what happens when LC and Speidi come face to face in the ep titled Drama Follows Them …
So … despite multiple warnings from her friends and cohorts, Lauren LC Conrad insists on remaining friends with the sister of her bitter nemesis, Spencer Pratt. The OVERRIDING and BLATANT message that was REPEATEDLY BEAT INTO OUR HEADS in last night’s ep was that LC’s trusting ways will end up hurting her, again, in the end:
OK, so I get that sometimes scenes for the show have to be shot to help move the storyline along which is what you kinda have to expect with this sort of “reality” TV program but when the producers become way too obvious in trying to get the audience to “get” the storyline, well, it just becomes a bit tedious. We get it, LC shouldn’t trust Stephanie … We get it, Stephanie will betray LC … We get it, be on the look out for the future ep where LC’s trust of Stephanie will lead to the ultimate betrayal. Geeze … a little subtlety can’t hurt, it would be nice if they gave the audience a little bit of credit. Anyways … I get that Doug is new to the show but he really needs to work on his “banter” with LC. Mebbe he can take lessons from Whitney on how to ask questions properly so that LC can move the storyline along. Watching him interact with LC by asking awkward questions is … disconcerting. The whole birthday party thing was just … not that exciting. Yes all the mortal enemies were in the same place at the same time but … nothing came of it. No one even directly addressed one another, it was pretty much over before it even began. Couldn’t there have been at least one slap? I mean, poor Frankie isn’t even getting paid for this stuff … he could’ve at least been allowed to slap someone or something, sheesh. And WTF? was up with Lo’s hair, make-up and all the bad lighting … the producers were really harsh to her last night. Kelly Cutrone reared her … um, head again and man … what a scary sight. I’m sorry but all I can think when I see her on screen is EEEEEEK! Her pallor has gotten even more sickly since the last time we saw her on the show … she make Marc Anthony look spry and lively. I wish I could feel bad for that girl that she fired from People’s Revolution but I think she actually did her a favor. Whether it’s real or not, it doesn’t look like working for Kelly is all that rewarding or fun … run, girl, run as fast as you can! So yeah … something is coming, it’s not even like we’re supposed to feel it — we were basically told. Very soon Stephanie is going to do something to betray LC and ruin her relationship with Doug … can you feel the anticipation rising? If not, you’re not paying enough attention because they’re basically trying to force feed us. They should really just chill out on all the obviousness … it would make for a much more enjoyable watching experience. What did ya’ll think?

i loved the ep. watching the faces at the bday party was SO worth the 1 week wait. i cant wait til next week… i feel like the eps are so short tho. im sure they can ad in like five more min of useless info… gah i love this show. old ladies have their soaps… i got the hills. :) hooray

Glad I wasn’t the only one who thought Lo looked really bad in that lighting. I thought it added years to her. And yes, the producers need to stop feeding us this crap. The Hills use to be really fun to watch but it’s becoming lamer and lamer each episode.

Has anyone else noticed that in the opening credits there is no sign of Heidi until her name comes up and then she quickly disappears? She is so out. Hmmmm, I wonder if LC had anything to do with that???

I am not kidding when I was laughing at the screen last night it was so fake. I can do with knowing it is fake but when they really make it obvious then I can’t handle it. What a boring episode. I love LC but if I have to hear about “trust” again I am going nuts. Also, the whole story line about LC and the most obnoxious couple speidi running into each other has run it’s course. I really am happy LO is back. She is the only “real” character on the show, even thou she did look like a 60 year old drag queen last night. My love for this show is beginning to hit rock bottom. I am not sure how much more I can take. At least Brody was HAWT as ever!!

Does anyone else think that Lo is just such a s**t disturber? I know that it is edited to make it worse, but she just seems like a really unhappy person, ugly on the inside and out.

i loved the expressions everyone had when Spencer & heidi showed up lol. and how they alllll cleared out.
and i use to like LO..but shes just a bitch now, i cant stand her….and she looked HORRIBLE at the party. im not even blaming the lighting cause she looked bad in the car before she even walked into the club. and the outfit didnt help out at all.
but of course Mr Jenner was looking good..as always <3

I get that the show is about LC and I love her for it, but she had a “I hope you happy with yourself” kind of attitude at Steph after the party. It’s Steph’s birthday. If her brother shows up, tough titties LC!

I am glad I missed this mess. It seems that this show has higher ratings and lower entertainment every episode. It’s horrible. I doubt I will be tuning in at all for the rest of the season. The premier was enough for me.

They are childish - most of them. Some of them haven’t gotten out of the ego-centric lives we live when we are children and think the world revolves around us. Many people grow out of that…it’s a shame these people haven’t.
And Mrs. Crabtree…yeah…she looks sickly. For someone who owns a fashion company…she needs to work on her look. She could use to be a little bit nicer too.

what was up with Lo’s shade of lipstick! ewwwwww she looked like an old lady sporting some donald trump hair flip! i was sooo embarrassed for her…that and she looked to be like 200#’s in that glitter ball dress…just goes to show you what a bitch karma can be! The show has definatley jumped the shark in my opinion…seriously a show for the brain dead!

I think they had Brody leave just to have something ‘dramatic’ happen. It’s so…like…he goes, I don’t want any drama, this is drama or whatever…when all that happened was people came in and sat down. Maybe it’s just mee but I thought it seemed a little over dramatic for him.

All I have to say is that if Spencer shows up at his sister’s party then LC has no right to get mad…she knew that Stephanie was Spencer’s sister when she decided to become friends with her. She can’t act like it Spencer shows up then Stephanie is betraying her…it’s her freakin’ brother!!! LC is an idiot and gets what she deserves in a lot of instances. I’m not saying that I don’t like LC but if you are going to become friends with your enemy’s sister then don’t be surprised when he shows up places where his sister is.

Oh and I used to LOVE Lo on Laguna Beach. I don’t know when and why she became so unfriendly seeming. I mean granted when we saw her on L.B. she was with her friends and now she is being integrated into new groups of friends…so maybe she was always a snob but since we saw her in her own clique on L.B. we didn’t realize it. I wish she would be her cute, bubbly self again, and not this stuck up girl that everyone is starting to hate.

spencer’s facial hair and then lack-thereof really bothered me!!! shouldn’t producers or editors or someone realize that? i was thinking the same thing when i saw Lo at the party. poor girl!

First of all, does anyone else think LC is a complete bitch? Seriously - this girl is always in the middle of drama… hmmm, I think she’s the common denominator! She needs to chill out.
Second of all, I loved Lo on Laguna Beach… and now I can’t stand the girl - “only the people that matter”… Seriously? BI-ATCH!

haha I think whitney should get her own show :) and that spencer should just STFU cuz he’s so freakin annoying.. and did anyone noticed that when audrina was talking to her friend she said that “tonight” she was going to stephs party and then lauren was telling whitney that “tomorrow” she was going to the party :O.. why cant they pay more attention to those things?
ooh.. and give Lo some credit.. she’s the one entertaining us this season.. if it werent for her we’d only have lauren and heidi again.. BORING! I loved it when Lo said “I’m glad we talked” and audrina just went blank :P

Frankly I don’t know why everyone even buys the producers’ attempts to make Lo always look like the bad guy…fine, she’s been a little rude to Audrina, but Audrina has been equally rude right back, and made no attempt to be nice or understanding or amenable to the discussion Lo wanted to have with her the week before, and contrary to what Audrina told her silly work friend Chiara, Lo never said that Audrina’s friends had been rude to her. I never minded Audrina and have always liked Lo, but I am at a loss to understand why everyone thinks that the situation is entirely Lo’s fault. As for Lauren - I am a big fan of hers but she asks a lot of Lo and nothing of Audrina, and I don’t think that’s fair so I think Lo is completely within her rights to rebuff Lauren’s attempts to have her and and Audrina spend any time together.
As for Lo’s comment about “the people who matter getting along” - she tried to repair things with Audrina, Audrina didn’t want any of it and was a total bitch to her, so what is Lo supposed to do now? I love how people think they’d do anything differently in the situation. If you yourself tried to repair things with someone and they talked to you like Audrina talked to Lo, I doubt you’d be anxious to try again, and to you, you’d probably think that the person who said that to you actually DOESN’T matter. Yes, Lo can be a tad bitchy…but Audrina is equally as bad - why does no one else seem to think that?
Stephanie is a fence-sitter who loves to involve herself in other people’s drama and then refuses to take any sides, but prefers to badmouth everyone to everyone else and do other sketchy things.
Heidi and Spencer are a waste of time and space. They are such appalling people that I can hardly stand to watch them although I will give them some credit for their eloquence - Spencer’s comment about wanting to make Stephanie “un-his sister” and Heidi’s comment last season about her rift with LC being “old water under the brdge”…old water? Really? Water ages? Bah.

christine, i don’t know what show you are watching but Lo has been a complete bitch to Audrina since last season! Do you not remember her dubbing Justin, justin Bonny and being a complete ass to him the very first night she met him? Who does that? In fact Lo still calls Justin, Justin Bobby to Audrina’s face knowing full well how disrespectful it is. She also has repeatedly talked crap about Audrina, Justin and Audrina’s friends behind Audrina’s back! And do you not remember Lauren and Lo not consulting Audrina about the idea of getting a house together and then starting to look for a house on their own secretly and then both of them being surprised that Audrina felt like she was the unwanted third wheel? Oh and there was also the blow up last year in Vegas when Lo was complaining about Justin not spending time with her lol who would want to spend time with anyone who made fun with them on a continued basis? If you remember Audrina stormed out in Vegas and Lauren later apologized for her behavior but Lo never did, so trust me this has been brewing for a loooong time. No one wants to be made fun of and picked apart all the time. I think Audrina kept her cool for a long time out of respect for Lauren, since Lo is her long time friend. But a person can only take so much. I mean the digs are constant. If Audrina mentions Justin coming to the housewarming party, she gets ugly looks about it and comments like ugh he’s coming? i don’t get the double standard since brody and frankie who both totally played lo AND lauren are invited with open arms. Ditto for stephen who continually lied to Lauren. In all honestly I think Lo grew up very sheltered and is used to dealing with people who are just like herself, spoiled, entitled and self centered! And as for her dissing Audrina’s friends to Audrina, of course she did that! Um hello the show is famous for it’s editing! The one thing I love and will continue to love about Audrina is that she is 100% herself, she is honest and she’s not going to say anything behind your back that she wouldn’t say to your face. I can’t say the same for Lo

The bottom line is that this show is completely fake, everyone knows it’s fake, but people can’t stop watching it. Call it guilty pleasure or simply just masochist but come monday night, we just can’t wait to see how much more ridiculous producers get with the voice-overs, scripted storylines, and inconsistencies in reshoots whether it’d be the hairdo or nail polish color. No one can stand Heidi and Spencer.. every scene of theirs is even more fake than the other.. but they don’t seem to care bc after all their motto is ‘any publicity is good publicity.’ No one wants to see them in the weeklies but there they are with the ridiculously staged paparazzi pictures and we keep buying them. They tip off the paparazzi, make money off them, and we sit and wonder why we even care. They are the king and queen of inconsistencies in their stories, yet we still sit there and read about them, watch them, and hate ourselves for it.. but the fact is that they are relevant and that makes Spencer the winner here, and i’m just not sure how to stop him or if anyone can stop him. How they distinguish reality with well, all their lies and publicity stunts is a question they can only answer, but it just goes to show how ridiculous the media has become and it makes me just as bad bc here i am talking about them.

I’m tired of Lo being so bitchy and it’s only the second episode - she’s going down Spencer’s path and just getting worse. I’m tired of the Team Lauren vs. Team Heidi thing - everybody needs to kiss and make up NOW. And Audrina and Whitney are starting to feel as distant as Spencer and Heidi from the main spotlight…
Why do I still watch this show? lol.
