‘The Hills’: Friends FORnEVER
So … the premiere of season 4 of The Hills aired on MTV last night and got things started off with an attempted bang. It’s always tricky when you begin a new season because, depending on how much you rely on previous seasons, there is a lot of groundwork that needs to take place before the action can really get going … and there was a bit of groundwork laid last night:
We got to see some new faces, we got to see some old faces and we got to see Whitney’s many faces … all in all, it was a pretty nice start to, what will hopefully be, a really drama-filled season. After the jump, find out want went down on the ep entitled We’ll Never Be Friends …
Let me just say that Whitney Port is the glue that holds this show together. She is really the unsung hero that is a lot more important than some folks realize. If it weren’t for her constant questioning, there would be no way to keep the show a cohesive entity … and I LOVE LOVE LOVE her facial expressions. Watching her react to everything that LC says is worth the price of admission alone. But … this isn’t really news to the diehard fans of The Hills. We got to meet some new characters that may or may not be a big presence on this new season. Heidi’s sister came to town, basically to get a Hollywood make-over and find a place to live — oh, and to annoy the hell out of Spencer. Doug made his Hills debut as LC’s new love interest … we’ll see how long that lasts (previews for the upcoming season show that Stephanie will try to horn in on LC’s action and get a piece of her man). The crux of last night’s drama was carried over from last season … Lo vs. Audrina. In case anyone wasn’t sure if the girls were getting along, Audrina had to literally state for the record: “Lo’s always superbitchy. That’s just the way she is.” By the end of the ep, Lo and Audrina had a face to face, heart to heart and basically came to the conclusion that they can’t be friends and they prolly hate each other’s guts. OH NO! Now we, the viewing audience, are going to have to decided which team we are on — Team Lo or Team Audrina. AND THEN IT DAWNED ON ME … because there really isn’t too much LC vs. Heidi drama going on since they don’t really interact any more (except in “rare occasions” like birthay parties … oh wait, that’s still to come) there has to be further VS. conflict for us to latch on to … enter Lo and Audrina. I’ve been on Team Lo since the Laguna Beach: The Real OC days, so I’ve got her back … but I must say, she was acting a bit shitty at Audrina’s birthday party. That being said, if all those people showed up at my house, I don’t know that I’d want to serve them either. The gauntlet has been thrown down, LC is caught in the middle and drama is full speed ahead. On the Speidi front, Holly looks to throw a wrench in Heidi and Spencer’s love affair by moving in with them … which could possibly threaten their marriage plans! Sadly, I have to admit that it’s getting harder and harder to suspend belief while watching this show anymore. I know we’re supposed to “buy” the things we see on screen but when they don’t match up with the real life stuff we see in magazines, in interviews, on the streets of SoCal, I can’t really just go with the on-screen drama … hee hee, but I’m sure I’ll get over that feeling soon. I understand there is a lot of great drama coming up very soon … I’ll hold out for that in the hopes that my desires will be met … or at least massaged for a bit come each Monday night. What do y’all think? Was last night’s ep a great way to start the season?
UPDATE: Pink reader Mariss gave me the head’s up that Whitney WAS at Audrina’s BBQ birthday party despite the fact that she had to “pretend” she wasn’t there so that she could ask LC questions about the party afterward (as if she wasn’t there) to move the storyline along. Mariss caught that Whitney was there wearing a big floppy hat that covered her face … I checked my DVR and, yep, I’d bet money that it’s Whitney Port:
See how difficult it is to suspend belief? MTV needs to pay better attention when they edit this stuff because it’s becoming easier and easier to catch the mistakes.

LO is the biggest bitch EVAH! I came to this conculsion way early in The Hills eps when i noticed her interaction with waiters. If you watch carefully, you’ll notice how whenever a server brings her her food, she never makes eye contact, and gives a very condescending, “thank yewwwwwwww”; it just shows her snobby, better than everyone attitude–BITCH!!!!

This season is going to be lack luster. Everything is SO contrived. Holly showing up, Doug coming into LC’s life, Audrina’s party; Everything is so lame. Whitney is funny, but so boring. Audrina needs to move out and get her own show. Her friends seem cool. Lo is a bitch. The end. I hope her and Audrina do hate each other. Audrina don’t take any shit.
Doug is hot. I’ll be watching to look at him and Brody. YAY for mancandy!

I love LO for being honest! She is a bitch but so what. It’s not like Audrina is really trying to kiss her ass or anything. Audrina is a fake bitch where as LO is in your face and thats why I love her. Speidi’s story line is really fading. Oh no, Heidi’s sister came into town and Spencer was a grump..BORING! Hopefully they are slowly writing them off the show. PS. Heidi’s sister isn’t that pretty. In the end it was a decent episode. I hope they get better and I hope LO really gives it to Audrina…I think Audrina’s head is getting a little big..or those eyes are sagging more, it’s hard to tell!!

i have to say that i was actually kind of disappointed with the premiere :/…. the stupid 15 minute commercial break is what really pissed me off. there was about 15 minutes of air time total for the whole show!!!! wtf?! other than that, im so glad to have the fakery that is the hills back in my life. i was starting to have withdrawals.
and i so used to love LO but now I think she’s such a bitch, Team Audrina all the way! The writers totally should of made Audrina kick LO out of her guest house/room

I can’t believe that Spencer was being such a jerk to Heidi! She just lost her brother and he was being a total jerk to her for wanting to help out her sister. I don’t get why she stays with him. Then again, he was probably just playing up his role as the villian. All in all it looks like its going to be a drama filled season and I’m excited!

i am team Lo. If you watch the argument… Lo was telling her her feelings and trying to figuer things out… and AUdrina was being a snot…like. i dont care to even try to work on things. and if i were Lo i wouldnt wanna be at the party either… audirina’s friends looked like they were running things… what fun could Lo have.. she did her part and helped her set up… but u cant make someone have fun… maybe she was tired… or on the rag. and besdies that… its a TV SHOW… so who knows what the writers really have in store.

Lo is by far the snobbiest girl out of any of them on the show and I feel bad for LC for not realizing how condescending Lo really is. LC seems like the type of person that trusts people too much and Lo really takes advantage of that…Especially since Lo knew LC pre-MTV Laguna “reality.” Lo is just using LC, otherwise she’d be backstabbing her as she does to everyone else. Good for Audrina for just coming out and saying what Lo truly is and saying that the two will never be friends…And good for her for wanting nothing to do with Lo. She is bad news and creates a path of destruction and gossip drama wherever she goes!
I will be on team Audrina because Lo is LO-WER than Spencer!

I’d have to go with Team Audrina. Although it’s clear that neither Lo or Audrina like each other, at least Audrina never makes snide or condescending comments, whereas Lo does it quite often. Also, Lo didn’t come to Audrina’s house to make friends. She basically came to make it clear that SHE is not the bitch in the situation, and that it is not her fault. In essense, she was transferring the blame to Audrina for the record. Lo also thought Audrina’s friends were beneath her because they were too punk-rocker’ish.

I have to say, I’m team Audrina. I just feel like Lo hasn’t really made much effort at all with her and really would love to just have Lauren to herself. With that being said, I feel like all of it is so contrived and rehearsed now and it’s getting harder and harder to even sit and make it through an episode. Hopefully the rest of the season will be better!

Im most def on Team Audrina. Lo is incredibly bitchy and snobby. Its like she is still stuck in high school where she only talks to a “certain type of people.” Lo needs to get over herself..shes not better than anyone else.
Also Im wondering why people were annoyed by the people Audrina invited to the party…I mean it was a party for her birthday right? …I mean why throw someone a party and not let them invite the people they like best?
Oh and the part where Audrina said “well never be friends” was most definitely a voice over. That was my first thought when I heard it so I agree with everyone else.

Let’s be frank here. I work for an MTV production company myself and I know all about reality TV, field producers and story producers. They create a story line before the footage is even taped, so recognize that before taking sides/teams.
Lo and Audrina are meant to be rivals “edit wise” and that’s why they’re editing their confrontation(s) to depict so.
Audrina is her own person and is different than Lo and Lauren period. Yes Lauren and Audrina have a close friendship, but it’s 100% different than her relationship with Lo.
As a sarcastic person myself I find myself identifying with Lo. She’s blunt, sarcastic and upfront. A lot of us and OUR friends are like that. Imagine your sarcastic friend being filmed and then… enter trained, story-producing editors editing her soundbites to make her mold into a certain character that comes off unlikeable.
Hmm. Looks like the editors/ story producers and field producers succeeded in painting the storyline juicy, scandalous and as perfect as they intended BEFORE they even began filming.

Please. I think both girls looked pretty bad this episode, Audrina didn’t make any effort, Lo didn’t make any effort.. what do you expect? I think they’re both being bitches, and should try to make some sort of compromise like “I want to get to know you better, how about we go..blahblahblah” instead of just assuming a friendship.
But then again, the writers have magic skills, and nothing is what it seems. Still, it’s fun to watch, fun to be over opinionated, and it’s so much fun to waste time over this show.

I was gonna say the same thing about Doug and Frankie….really weird.
Ok so a few years ago LC had a pic of her and Heidi’s sis on her myspace and this girl totally didnt look like her….I will have to rewatch the ep from last season when Heidi took Spencer home and they show her sis. It doesnt look like the pic I saw though. I wouldnt be surprised if her sis wanted nothing to do with it and they hired an actress. Not one bit surprised.
I like Lo and Audrina. But to the person saying Lo just wants to ride the fame….umm Lo was friends with LC before all of this…Audrina joined the show to ride the fame haha. I think Audrina purposely distances herself from the two of them.
I havent finished the premiere yet I DVRed it and i only watched through the bday party before I had to go to work so I will finish tomorrow.
And I agree with some other poster before me who said that looks like LC in the big hat.

I love audrina, but i also enjoyed watching Lo on Laguna Beach too. Lo has gotten on my nerves a bit because there was no reason for her to talk to audrina the way she was, even in Season 3. I will be on Team Audrina, only because Lo gives me the shits the same way Heidi did in the first season, by acting like a spoilt little girl.
BTW, i thought i saw the Veronicas at the party, one girl they showed on the screen looked like one of the twins. Who knows. I’ll have to watch it again. haha

Lo really needs a MAN in her LIFE & probably needs a GOOD LAY!!! Audrina has got it goin on. I hope Heid’s sister really helps Heidi DUMP that “THING” she is supposedly engaged 2. Whitney is by far the CLASSIEST woman on the show, she is always so positive about everything (luv her). LC just needs to accept the fact not all of her friends are gonna like each other or get along & it’s ok she shouldn’t have 2 choose!

did anyone else notice at the end when holly is leaving, the cab’s front end is facing one way because heidi and holly load things into the trunk. when holly gets in the cab, it is facing the other way and drives off. tsk tsk. i love the ‘lets find the mistakes in the hills’ game. fun fun!

I think since I was never really into Laguna Beach I don’t really get Lo. Most of what I’ve seen on The Hills of her has been edited to show her being a bitch. But most of the time, up until the end of last season, she kind of just appeared randomly and got filled in on the drama. Yes, she is definitely being a bitch to Audrina… but I get how when you live with someone and then you don’t really hang out it becomes uncomfortable. Like you walk by each other and kind of say hi but if you never see each other it’s hard to connect. I love Audrina, and I think she’s really pretty, but I don’t know if I can ever forgive her for Justin Bobby. Worst taste in a guy, EVER. How assertive can she really be if his lame ass is still hanging around? Nevertheless… I’m on Team Audrina.
