Tori Spelling Pulls Out Of ‘90210’

Has 'no plans' to appear on the show
August 11th, 2008

After Deadline Hollywood posted a story online alleging that Tori Spelling is feeling unloved by the folks producing the Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off (who are reportedly paying both Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth more money to appear on the show then they offered Tori), US Weekly is reporting that Tori Spelling has pulled out of appearing on 90210 altogether. HMMM … could someone be playing hardball in the hopes of securing more moolah?

Tori Spelling has changed her mind about returning to Beverly Hills, 90210 as Donna Martin. “At this time, there are no plans for Tori to appear in the 90210 spinoff,” her rep tells Usmagazine.com. (A rep for The CW told concurred: “The CW has no deal with Tori Spelling to appear on 90210 at this time.”) The confirmation comes after DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com reported Monday that Spelling, 35, pulled out after learning that co-stars Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty were earning $35,000-$50,000 per episode compared to Spelling’s $10,000-$20,000 per episode salary. “She thought she deserved parity, and she’s got a point,” an insider told DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com

Now this is a risky move on Tori’s part. On the one hand, I can understand why she wouldn’t want to work for less money than her roughly equal co-stars are getting but if she pushes too far then she won’t get anything. I’m very surprised that the producers of the show are so willing to discount Tori Spelling … of the ladies, she is the one main character of the show that stayed with BH, 90210 til the very end. It seems really shitty that they would treat her like this, especially when she was so loyal to the original show (both Shannen and Jennie left the show years before the series ended I stand corrected, apparently Jennie stayed on ’til the end as well … but it doesn’t change my point). It just doesn’t make sense to me … why would the show want to shoot itself in the foot before it even gets off the ground?

Actually, Jennie was on the show for the entire run, along with Tori, Brian and Ian.

  2. EmilyDC Says:

Just an FYI Jennie Garth was also on the show the entire series with Tori Spelling. I’m rewatching season 10 right now on Soap Net, and it was Kelly, Donna, Steve and David as the ones that lasted all 10 years. Dylan came back but was on hiatus for a few seasons.

Exactly what I was going to say.

  4. Jill Says:

    Ditto!!! :)

I say Tori’s doing the right thing. What the HELL are they thinking over there??? Shannen Doherty? Is she still even alive? At least Tori’s been working and staying in the public eye and, as those earlier said, was extremely loyal to the show. Oh, and for what it’s worth, a couple of friends ran into SD at some bar in LA and approached her to say how much they enjoyed her on the show and she told them to stop living in the F-ing past, while I know ppl who have met Tori (and her hubby) and she is always nice and polite and will happily pose for photos and thanks ppl for remembering her.

  6. Catherine Says:

I was just going to say the same thing… I don’t remember Jennie Garth ever leaving.

    Go Tori!

  7. Mr. Gyllenhaal Says:

I feel bad for her but we are talking Shannen D. Here. I wonder is this is going to start a whole new drama circus between these ladies. I love it!! LONG LIVE SHANNEN!!!

  8. ginae Says:

i don’t really care for tori but i agree w/ her move on this one….
should definitely be getting more than nasty shannen!

  9. Michelle Says:

I don’t blame Tori for leaving. Hell, her dad CREATED THE ORIGINAL SHOW!

  10. Lisa Says:

The only reason she was even on the original show was because her dad created it!

Not that any of the original actors are exactly academy award winners, but I was thought she was the worst (SD a close second, but at least much more interesting to watch) and her storylines boring. I don’t know if I will tune into the series or not, but I know that whether or not Donna Martin is on the show is not going to be a factor…Brenda and Kelly back together again, now that could be interesting!

  11. sal Says:

People didn’t watch 90210 for Donna Martin’s character.
Not having Tori in it is not going to make or break the show.
But I do feel for the her, that girl needs money!
She’s already pimpin her and her family out on reality shows.

  12. schmee Says:

Silly question, if her Dad created the show and hes dead… wouldnt Tori Spelling own a big giant chunk of the new show? Including the characters from the old show that are on the new show?

  13. javajunko Says:

I think she probably realizes how crappy this show is going to be and how its going to bomb in ratings. But she should be getting the same amount of money than the other ladies, she stuck it out till the end at least and showed her loyalty back in the day, why shouldn’t she get the same amount or more??!! any which way, the show won’t last long so maybe she just doesn’t want to bother… I don’t know why people are making such a big deal about Shannen, she shot herself in the foot years ago and left the show and she wasn’t that exciting of a character.

  14. Joanne Says:

The original stars should be payed equal money (Tori included). It must be hard for her to see changes in the show that her Dad created (and maybe would not approve of). I’ve never understood the hating towards Tori Spelling.

  15. Joanne Says:

    *paid*

  16. Lissa Says:

She deserves just as much money as Jenny Garth and that b**** Shannen Dougherty. Frankly, when I think of 90210 she is the first one that comes to mind. Plus, you know Shannen Dougherty is going to flake out eventually and quit! Tori is way more reliable.

  17. WawaLisa Says:

Give me a break! When her “talented” father could not get the rights to the popular Canadian series Degrassi High, he ripped it off instead and developed 90210. Aaron Spelling never had an original thought in his life and obviously his arrogance lives on in his daughter.

Tori may have received parity with her co-stars on 90210, but back then “Daddy” was calling the shots. Now that he is not around to buy her an acting career and is not dictating the vision for the show she can’t deal with what her true value in the marketplace is. Good riddance to spoiled rubbish!

  18. Cara Says:

I think the whole show is a bit of a desperate grab at ratings; the original was fun but it’s not the 90’s anymore and they hardly set the characters up to have interesting lives after the show ended. I suspect it won’t last long, so Tori is probably saving herself the embarrassment that will come.

  19. JS Says:

TORI IS AN EMBARRASSMENT!!! She’s a freaking nobody D-List non “actress”. Her rich & famous daddy bought her a career. All she’s done since 90210 ended was start in 2 or 3 Lifetime movies. Now even they don’t want her buggly eyes ass. Now the homewrecker has stooped to selling out her kids & family with that childish, sleazy beady eyed Dean on a reality show to try & stay “famous”.

Now that she’s gone I might actually watch this show.

  20. Heather - ATL Says:

Go Tori.. they are Stupid for letting her go/not paying her as much as Crazy and Bitchy are getting! That was my Soap!! and I was looking forward to it but now I’m thinking blah.
She might not be the Best Actor…. yes we know that but she was a huge part of that show… cheesy as it was.. she was a HUGE part of it!

  21. ana Says:

Tori has devalued her name over time. I’m surprised Shannon is getting as much as she is! Tori makes sense, but Shannon?

  22. Charmaine Saddleback Says:

I think you PEOPLE that dont like her should shut your big mouth
she’s doing good and making a living and to top it off she’s happy, arn’t you!!!!!!! Leave her alone let her be happy in what he doing….

  23. Bernardo Holloway Says:

    huh… Seems honest (-;
