What are your life goals? Some of us can count them on one hand. Be tidier. Work out every day. Start a business. Life goals are big, unchanging dreams that follow us through the years. They can be incredibly motivating, especially if you work tirelessly towards them. But they can also be annoying reminders of times you haven’t quite smashed it.
There are some small life goals you can set yourself that will help you become a better person, by that we mean a more rounded, happier, and more positive version of yourself. The best version of you that you can possibly be! That sounds good, right?
All you need to do is keep it simple and remember that goals don’t take days off! Work on it always, and see how far you could come. So, are you ready to be the best version of yourself you could possibly be?
GOAL NUMBER 1:
Improve your physical health
Don’t leave this goal on the back burner. If you’re already working out, make a point to work out more. Dedicate time to your health every single day, whether you’re intermittently exercising and walking or enrolling in classes and activities that give you joy. Not only does working up a sweat help your body achieve its peak physical performance, you’ll be more mentally adept – too!
GOAL NUMBER 2:
Be aware of what you’re eating
Let’s be honest, indulging in pizza, ice cream, fries, and fizzy drinks isn’t going to make you a bad person. But it can impact your health. Some days you just want to say “why not?”. And enjoy your life, which is perfectly fine. But you should make a goal in your life to be more aware of what you’re eating. Learn where it comes from, what’s inside it and if it’s ethical and environmentally friendly. This WILL help you become a better person and make a change in the world around you.
GOAL NUMBER 3:
Write every day
How nice would it be, when you’re old and grey, to sit down and read the diaries you wrote in your twenties, thirties, and beyond. The thoughts and fears that plagued you. The mistakes you made. The stresses you had that now don’t seem so bad?
Not only that, reflecting on a journal entry you mad one month, week, or even one day ago can help you add some perspective to the way you’re feeling and help get your head in the game. The Make It Happen notebook is the perfect size and layout for your daily journal, you can carry it with you wherever you go and it’s got plenty of room for all those thoughts in your head. If you make this a habit every day, you’ll find yourself more organized, structured, and less likely to forget things.
GOAL NUMBER 4:
Look after your mental health
Whether you take a mindfulness course, invest in some online counseling, or just try to be kinder to yourself, there is absolutely nothing wrong in looking after your mental health. Just like your physical health, your mental health is capable of deteriorating if you don’t keep up with it, and even if you don’t think you have any particular issues that spring to mind, it can be so nice to get a clear mind and embrace a balanced way of thinking.
GOAL NUMBER 5:
Help other people
Try to make it your mission to be a help to others. It is SO easy to tut when someone stands in front of you on the tube, to push tourists out of the way, and to generally be adverse to helping when you see someone that needs help with bags, suitcases, or directions. Sometimes busy life gets in the way. Whether it’s a friend or a stranger, if you try to make it your goal to be dedicated to helping others, you’ll find that you’re much happier and more positive in yourself.
The other day, for example, I helped an older woman with her grocery bags. She rewarded me with 5p and kind words, but I felt like I’d come away with more than that. I felt like my mood had been instantly lifted and I decided to try and pass that feeling on.
GOAL NUMBER 6:
Save for one month
For at least one month, save the money you have and spend as little as possible. Living on a tight budget might sound a little bit OTT, especially if you have enough expendable income to afford luxuries, but it will teach you some rules about financial health, help you build a nest egg faster, and will help you keep track of the money you actually have.
We designed the Getting Stuff Done planner to help you with this, there’s an entire section for tracking your daily expenses so you can make sure you’re on track with your monthly savings goal!
GOAL NUMBER 7:
Try one new thing a week
Every week, try one new thing. Whether it’s a new food, a new experience or a new skill. Don’t tell yourself you don’t like something until you’ve tried it. Try everything, say yes more often, and broaden your horizons. You’ll be amazed at how many things you could do if you open your mind to them.
Finally, are there any life goals you would add to this? What’s your life goal right now?
