Responsible Gaming Tips for Slot Fans

Online slots are hugely entertaining, and it’s no surprise that these games have no many fans. The numbers of people who regularly play online slots are growing, which is now a perfectly acceptable pastime. This is partly because slot machines are now more accessible than ever, thanks to appearing on mobile phones and tablets, and because they are a lot of fun, and the themes and designs are exciting to look at and be involved with when playing.  The key is knowing how to practice responsible gaming.

However, it must be remembered that when you are playing free slot games, unless you are playing demo versions, you will be spending real money each time you spin. So you must be able to enjoy playing slots responsibly. It is easy to become addicted to the games, and you could develop a gambling habit that you just won’t be able to afford if you’re not careful. That’s why we’ve put together some useful responsible gaming tips for slot fans. Read them and put a plan in place to ensure you can enjoy your games without going overboard and regretting the time you spend online.

Have A Time Limit

If you go online and choose to play slots without putting a time limit in place before you start, you might find that hours have passed without you even noticing. The games are all-encompassing when you are having fun, and time really will fly. Since the games are simple to play and you don’t have to think about what you are doing, you can even carry on conversations, watch videos, or use other devices, and the time will go even faster.

If you give yourself a time limit, it’s obviously important to stick to it. You might even be able to program this information into the site you are playing on – some online casinos offer this facility because they understand how problematic slots can be without imposed limits.

When your time limit is up, whether it’s self-imposed or you’ve asked the site you’re using to disallow any further games once the period is over, step away from the computer or device completely. If you are still sitting there, even if you are now doing something else or using a different app, you could be tempted to hop back onto the slots.

Have A Strict Budget

As well as setting a strict time limit when you are playing slots, you should also set a strict budget that you simply cannot go over. The reason that slots can be dangerous is that you gamble using real money when you’re playing them, and if you’re not careful, you can spend a huge amount in a very short amount of time. You might blow through all of your savings in under an hour – probably much less time if you’re using the highest bet settings – and have nothing to show for it when you’re done.

Having a budget in place means that this won’t happen. To determine how much you can spend on the slot games, you need to look at how much money you can afford to lose. Perhaps you have a special account where your slot money goes, or you have chosen to forego buying something to use that money to play slots with.

Ideally, you should be spending no more than ten percent of your income on slots. So if you earn £1000 a month, your limit for slots should be £100 or less. Going over and above this limit could land you in financial difficulties, and it’s not worth missing a rent or mortgage payment or not being able to buy food or pay your credit card bill just to play slots. They’re fun, but they’re not that fun.

Have Other Hobbies

If you only have one hobby, and that hobby is playing slots, the likelihood is that you won’t be able to do responsible gaming. You’ll start to spend more and more time online playing the games, and that means you’ll spend far too much money. Plus, over time, your fun will turn to regret, and your hobby will become an addiction, and these are not good – you’re supposed to be enjoying yourself not making life difficult over an online game.

Therefore, it’s a good idea to have other hobbies other than online slots. It’s even better if those hobbies get you out of the house and away from your computer or device so that you can’t fill in time by playing more slots when you are meant to be doing something else. Whatever your other hobby or hobbies are, they shouldn’t be gambling-related at all.

Remember, if you sit at a computer for too long you could be damaging your health, so go outside and walk, or take up a sport, or travel to an art class, for example.

Also, make sure that you spend time with friends and family. They are so important to a happy, healthy life, and if you find that you are spending more time playing slots than interacting with those around you, it’s time to stop for a while. Step back and enjoy other things in your life. The slots will still be there when you return.

Know When You’ve Had Enough

Even if you use every tip we’ve mentioned above, you might still find that you have a problem with slot games. You might stick to your time limit and budget, and you might have other hobbies, but you could still be itching to play online slots at all times.

It’s vital to know when you have a serious habit forming so that you can do something about it. If you’re always thinking about slots, or if your budget is gradually growing, or you’re adding an extra five minutes to your time limit every week, then your fun free time has become a habit that is turning into an addiction.

If this is the case, step back and think about what is happening. Slots are fun, but no rule says you have to have them in your life. Only play if you can do so responsibly.  You’ll be happier when you practice responsible gaming.
