The Strength of Wise Counsel

“Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” – Proverbs 11:14 (ESV)

In our journey through life, we often find ourselves at crossroads, faced with decisions that can shape our future. Proverbs 11:14 reminds us of the importance of seeking wise counsel. It tells us that without guidance, we are prone to fall, but with an abundance of counselors, there is safety.

Imagine a ship navigating through a stormy sea. Without a skilled captain and a knowledgeable crew, the ship is at the mercy of the waves, likely to be tossed and turned, and possibly even wrecked. However, with experienced hands at the helm and a team working together, the ship can find its way to safety, even in the fiercest of storms.

Similarly, in our lives, we need the wisdom and guidance of others to help us navigate through challenges and uncertainties. Seeking counsel is not a sign of weakness, but a testament to our desire for growth and our recognition that we do not have all the answers. It is through the collective wisdom of trusted advisors that we find clarity and direction.

Consider the story of Moses in the Bible. When he was overwhelmed with the responsibilities of leading the Israelites, his father-in-law Jethro advised him to appoint capable men to help judge the people. By heeding this counsel, Moses was able to lead more effectively and avoid burnout.

In our own lives, let us be open to the advice and insights of those around us. Whether it is a mentor, a friend, or a family member, their perspectives can provide us with the guidance we need to make wise decisions. Let us also strive to be counselors for others, offering our wisdom and support to those who seek it.

As we embrace the wisdom of Proverbs 11:14, let us remember that we are not alone in our journey. With the support of wise counselors, we can find safety and strength, and together, we can navigate the storms of life with confidence and hope.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of wise counsel. Help us to seek and value the guidance of others, and to be open to the wisdom they offer. Grant us discernment to recognize the right advisors and the humility to accept their counsel. May we also be a source of wisdom and support to those around us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
