Keep Knocking

Scripture: “For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”Luke 11:10 (NIV)

Prayer is often seen as a one-time act — we ask, and then we wait. But Jesus invites us into something far more dynamic: persistence. In Luke 11:10, He gives us a promise wrapped in three actions — ask, seek, and knock. Each word paints a picture of growing intensity and relationship.

Asking is the start — the vulnerable place where we admit our need. It requires humility. It acknowledges that God is the source, not us.

Seeking goes deeper — it’s active, intentional, and patient. It’s when we continue to pursue God even when answers are delayed or doors seem shut. We seek not only what we need, but who we need: Him.

Knocking is the boldest of the three. It says, “I believe there’s something good behind this door, and I’m not giving up until it opens.” It takes faith to knock when silence is the answer. Courage is needed to keep knocking when the door doesn’t open immediately.

But here’s the heart-soothing truth Jesus gives us: everyone who asks receives. Not some, not a few, not only the perfect or the strong — everyone. That includes you. Your prayers are not lost in the wind. They are heard, treasured, and answered — though not always in the way or timing you expect.

Sometimes God answers with a yes. Sometimes with a not yet. Yet sometimes He gives us something better than what we asked for. But He always answers with love.

So don’t stop. Keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking. Your persistence is not annoying to God — it’s precious to Him. He is not a reluctant Father withholding good. He is a loving Father, inviting deeper trust.

Reflection:

What have you stopped praying about because the answer didn’t come quickly? What would it look like to knock again — not in frustration, but in faith?

Prayer:

Lord, You know the cries of my heart — the ones I’ve prayed and the ones I’ve silenced. Help me to trust in Your goodness even when the answers seem delayed. Strengthen my faith to ask boldly, seek continually, and knock persistently. I know You hear me, and I know You care. Thank You for being a God who opens doors in Your perfect time. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
