Never Forgotten, Never Forsaken

Scripture: “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.”Psalm 37:25 (NIV)

Life has a way of testing our faith. There are moments — especially when the bills stack high or the answers seem delayed — when we wonder, Will God really take care of me?

David, the writer of Psalm 37, offers us a powerful reassurance — not from theory, but from a lifetime of walking with God. “I was young and now I am old,” he says, “yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken.” This is not a promise of a trouble-free life, but a declaration of a deeply faithful God.

David doesn’t say the righteous never struggle. He doesn’t say their cupboards are always overflowing. What he does say is that God does not abandon His own. Even when life wavers, God’s presence and provision remain firm. He provides enough. Sometimes it’s manna for the day, not storehouses for the year — but it is always enough.

The word “forsaken” in this verse is rich with meaning — it implies being left behind, deserted, forgotten. And God wants to make something clear: He doesn’t forget His people. Not when the world feels unstable. Nortwhen we’re overwhelmed. Nor when the waiting stretches long. He remains near, even in the silence.

And this promise doesn’t stop with us. David boldly adds, “nor their children begging bread.” God’s care echoes through generations. His faithfulness covers not just your life, but ripples into the lives of those you love. What a legacy to leave — not of wealth, but of unwavering trust in a faithful Father.

Reflection:

Have you ever looked back and seen God’s quiet provision in seasons when you feared lack? Take a moment today to thank Him for the ways He’s shown up — even if it was just enough for one more day.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for being my Provider. There have been days I worried, days I felt forgotten — but You have never let me go. Help me trust in Your timing and provision, even when I can’t see the whole picture. Let my life be a testimony, like David’s, that You never forsake those who walk with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
