“Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’” — Genesis 1:26 ESV
In the flurry of daily life, it’s easy to feel small. We scroll through filtered perfection, measure our worth by productivity, or compare ourselves to others who seem to have it all together. But Genesis 1:26 shatters those illusions with a glorious truth: You were created in the image of God.
Pause with that for a moment.
The same God who stretched the heavens, painted sunsets with His words, and sculpted mountains into existence—He made you to reflect His glory. Not just to function or survive, but to carry His likeness. That means your life has an eternal echo, a divine fingerprint stamped on your very being.
God made us in His image, instilling us with purpose, value, and dignity. He designed us to reflect His creativity, His compassion, His wisdom, and His power to choose love over fear. No matter your past, your status, or your struggle, nothing can erase that identity. It is your spiritual DNA.
But with the image comes responsibility. God gave us dominion—not domination—over His creation. We are to steward the earth, care for others, and reflect His heart to a world that desperately needs to see Him. We are not accidents or cosmic afterthoughts. As handcrafted reflections of our Creator, we are sent into the world with divine assignments.
So today, walk taller. Speak kinder. Live bolder. You carry the likeness of the Living God. You were made for communion, not comparison. For dominion, not despair. For glory, not guilt.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for creating me in Your image. When I feel less-than, remind me that I am Your reflection, made with intention and filled with purpose. Help me to live out that truth—to love like You, lead like You, and honor the life You’ve entrusted to me. Let Your image in me shine brightly in a dim world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Reflection:
When you look in the mirror, do you see someone made in God’s image? What would change if you did?
