But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1:8 NIV
Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He gave His disciples a final promise and a mission. He didn’t send them out in their own strength or wisdom. Instead, He told them to wait — because power was coming. Real power. Heavenly power. The power of the Holy Spirit.
This verse marks a pivotal moment in Scripture. It marks the moment before the birth of the Church, before the gospel began its journey across continents and cultures. And it starts with power — not political influence, not military might, not human charisma, but the power of the Holy Spirit.
This same Spirit that filled the early disciples now dwells in every believer today. That means you are empowered — not just to survive this life, but to live it boldly, joyfully, and purposefully. The Holy Spirit gives you strength when you feel weak, wisdom when you’re unsure, courage when you’re afraid, and words when you feel speechless.
But this power isn’t for show. Jesus makes it clear: “You will be My witnesses.”
Not just in Jerusalem (your comfort zone), not just in Judea (your surrounding area), not just in Samaria (places that might stretch you), but “to the ends of the earth.”
This is a call to live out the Gospel wherever you go — in your home, your workplace, your community, and even in places that feel unfamiliar. It’s a call to share the hope of Jesus with confidence, knowing the Spirit is with you, guiding you every step of the way.
Reflection:
-
Are you living in the power of the Holy Spirit, or are you relying on your own strength?
-
Where is God calling you to be His witness right now?
-
What fears or excuses do you need to surrender so you can fully walk in His power?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Thank You that I am not alone or powerless, but filled with Your presence and strength. You have empowered me. Help me to be bold in sharing Your love and truth with others — not just where it’s easy, but even where it’s uncomfortable. Fill me fresh today with Your Spirit, and lead me as Your witness in the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
