How to Ease your Pain Without Medication

If you suffer from frequent pain, chances are you’re already taking medication for it. You can get help for your pain, such as undergoing a pain assessment, trying physical therapy, and much more.

This article will show you how you, too, can ease your pain without medication.

Use a Heating Pad on the Affected Area

Sometimes using a little heating pad on the affected area can help. Please make sure that if you do use a heating pad, you do not place it directly onto your skin. This is because you could burn your skin without realizing it.

Make sure there is one layer of clothing, or a cloth, for example, between your skin and the heating pad. This should offer sufficient protection without burning your skin. You should also be able to feel the heat from the pad through the material. This will allow your muscles to relax, which could help you to get some relief from the pain. In some cases, it could even completely get rid of your pain.

Extra tip: Some people find that using cold therapy can work as an alternative to heating pads. This is because cold therapy can help to slow down the blood flow to the affected area. This will, in turn, help to reduce the swelling, which can also help to relieve the pain.

Applying a cold pack or a cold wrap can help. However, please make sure that you do not place it directly onto your skin. This is because you could burn your skin without realizing it.

Make sure there is one layer of clothing, or a cloth, for example, between your skin and the cold pad or patch. This should offer sufficient protection without burning your skin.

Have a Pain Assessment

If your pain is bad, and it has been with you for at least six months, you might want to have a pain assessment. This is where a doctor will assess your pain and take a look at your treatment options. You could find that you learn new ways to deal with your pain.

You do not always have to take medication to help you deal with your pain. There are other methods. Sometimes exploring new methods can work wonders as you can find a new solution to your pain. This can help you to feel much better not only as it reduces your pain, but it can also help you to feel as if there’s an end to your pain.

If you do opt to have a pain assessment, please make sure that it is carried out by a doctor. This is to ensure that they get to the route of your pain and can offer you treatment.

Try Tens Treatment

Tens treatment can really help to make a difference to your pain. It works by stimulating some of your nerves. This stimulation can help because it sends electrical signals to your nerves and, in doing so, ensures the pain is felt in more than one area. While this might not sound so great, it’s a surprisingly effective treatment.

When the nerves are stimulated, your pain is likely to be relieved. What this means is you will start to feel so much better. You do not have to wear the TENS machine for a long time. You simply wear it until the pain subsides.

You can personalize how well the TENS machine works. You can ensure your nerves are stimulated a lot or a little. It all depends on how bad your pain and how you respond to the treatment.

Consider Physical Therapy

Physical therapy can help to relieve your pain. This is because you will be taught how to move correctly and stretch your muscles. It can also help you to deal with the underlying cause of your pain.

On some occasions, physical therapy can involve swimming or other forms of water therapy. Alternatively, it can teach you to exercise a specific way, so you’re less likely to suffer from pain in the future. Please make sure you only use a licensed and approved physical therapist.

Consider Massages

Massage can occasionally help to relieve chronic pain. This is because it can help to ease sore muscles and tissues. In addition to this, massage can also help you to feel more relaxes. This, in itself, can help to relieve your pain as relaxation can help to relieve tension in your muscles.

If you do have a massage, please make sure that it does not make your pain any worse. This is always a risk because the pressure used could cause more damage. This is why if you opt to have a massage, you know it will not make your pain worse. Talk to the massage therapist before you have any treatment, so they know where you have the pain and what caused it.

As you can see, there are some techniques that could help you to ease your pain without medication. Why not consider using a heat patch, having a pain assessment, or undergoing physical therapy. Alternatively, you could have a massage or opt for TENS treatment. Whatever method you try, make sure you go easy at first, so you know how it affects your pain.

Please note, you should continue to take any pain medication that your doctor prescribes. If you wish to stop taking the medication, please speak to your doctor first.
