Hair Hack Ideas That Works for Me

My hair has a mind of its own.  I have tried all kinds of things.  Purchased a set of hot rollers, got a special brush hairdryer, and other stuff.  Didn’t help much.  I am just not good at fixing my hair.  Below are some hair hack ideas that you might find helpful if your hair has a mind of its own like mine.

What I do

  • I have a dry scalp, so I wash my hair three times a week.  If you have oily hair you may want to wash it four or more times.  I choose a shampoo that has conditioner in it.  I use two different types of shampoo so I am not using the same one each time I wash my hair.
  • I wash my hair in the shower and leave the second wash with conditioner on until I finish washing the rest of my body and then rinse it off.  This way the conditioner has more time to do its work.
  • I like to use a small amount of morocco oil on my hair after I wash.  Be careful about using too much as it can be too oily.
  • I use a lightweight mouse and comb or fingerstyle my hair.
  • I used to airdry my hair especially when it was short.
  • Now I like to blow dry it so I have some lift. My cousin gave me a great tip to get a little lift and that is to blow dry your hair while hanging your head upside down.  It works.
  • I lightly brush and style my hair.  Sometimes I have a part on the left other times it is on the right.  All depends on which direction my hair wants to go that day. I finish off with a light application of hair spray.
  • I am ready to face the day!

Other ideas

  • When the air is dry in the wintertime there is a lot of static in the air when brushing your hair.  Try putting a dryer sheet over your hairbrush to get rid of the static.  Nothing looks worse than going to work looking like you stuck your finger in the electrical socket!
  • Oily hair?  Wash your hair twice and rinse well after each washing.  It helps to remove oil and dirt that won’t wash out with one washing.
  • Clean your combs and brushes frequently.  They tend to trap germs, dust, and hair in them.  I like to take a comb and comb out as much of the hair from my brush that I can.  I then take an old toothbrush with gentle hand soap on it and clean between the bristles which will also remove the remaining hair.  I also use the toothbrush and hand soap to clean my comb.  You would be surprised how much conditioner and mousse get left behind on your comb.
  • Running late and don’t have time to wash your hair.  Try spraying your brush with hairspray and brush your hair. It will help remove some of the dirt and oil.

I hope these hair hack ideas help you if you have hair like mine that has a mind of its own.
